I use it. I plug my phone into a dock and use it in desktop mode on occasion. I actually have an old phone running an FTP server with an external hard drive connected.

I had a cable which only charged plugged in one way up. I assume some of the pins were damaged.

My $200 Motorola came with a 68w charger which is quite frankly ludicrous for a phone, and I prefer to use the slow charger so I don't heat and damage my battery unless I'm in a hurry (and my phone always lasts a whole day of heavy use so I'm almost never in a hurry to charge)

They have a magsafe port and come with a MagSafe cable (which is USB -> MagSafe) but they charge just fine with usb-c. I can't remember when I last used my MagSafe cable (I think it's in a box somewhere) because it normally charges while docked and it makes more sense to carry an USB cable on the go.

I think they wanted to go to usb-c (as that's what all their other products use) but they didn't want to face the backlash from customers when "all their cables and docks had to be changed again". Luckily for apple the EU gave them a fall guy.
