  • WOAH buddy. That's the American Way™. Are you saying that 'at-will' employment is not a good thing??

  • The blessing of having MMP is .. you don't have to vote for a lesser evil! You can actually vote for a good option!

I did! And they didn't get in because Money! It's fucking awesome!

  • In Ada's own words: “It is desirable to guard against the possibility of exaggerated ideas..."

Which is why articles like this are so dishonest: https://www.historyhit.com/facts-about-ada-lovelace-the-first-computer-programmer/

    Ada never 'programmed' a 'computer.'

Obviously a super interesting and intelligent historical figure who should be remembered and celebrated for her achievements and contributions to humanity. We definitely should keep celebrating that this woman wrote hypothetical code for a hypothetical computer, that to this day has been bug-free. That's an achievement. It's arguably more impressive to write code that was never able to be tested, following computing rules for a non-existent computer, and not make a single mistake.

It's irritating to see articles with completely wrong titles, that misrepresent (and understate) women's achievements in history, for the sake of a sensationalist headline and gaining feminist points. Lying is not required, there are great women in history, goddammit!

  • Have you played Anomaly? Anomaly looked better than Misery. I haven't checked the state of either for a while though.

  • And almost half were sex workers. I would bet that the real number is much greater, considering the numerous countries that wouldn't be recording the person as being trans. Due to the stigma associated, I'm guessing that it's more likely sex workers will be designated as 'trans' rather than general population, due to the conservative nature of many countries.

  • I bought the Steam version of Dwarf Fortress. I did not realise it was actually a time machine.

Every time I started it, I would instantly jump 4 hours into the future.

  • STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.

It didn't click at first, I was used to (less janky) games that treated you nicely. Came back years later, installed a bunch of mods to improve graphics and immersion.. And wow, I remember that first play through so well.

I haven't played many games that do immersion quite so well. Morrowind actually, is the closest.

It's because of the 'expedition' aspect. You don't just leave town and fumble your way through the world- you can't.. You need to prepare, know where you are going, have ammo and food and health supplies. And working guns.

Every expedition is an adventure. Death is seconds away at every moment, and it's your skill and knowledge that keeps you alive, not game mechanics or leveled enemies. It feels real.

I remember one time, I had a nice mp5 and I was going through Lab X16. A snork jumped out at me and in fright I emptied the whole mag. It was dead in 3 bullets, most of the mag went in to the ceiling. Ammo conservation is a real thing, and it's not about being accurate or efficient. It's about keeping your wits and trying not to panic-fire.

I've never had that experience in any other game ever.

  • That's the best part about Linux. You're allowed to do anything even when it's definitely a bad idea.

  • That was my first thought too but the total is globally, so it seems like quite a small number even when considering trans people account for ~1.4% of the world population which would be about 113,036,000 people.

    Man that's fucked up.

"Good news! Proportionally, less trans people were murdered!"

  • Plex, CUPS (printing services), Minecraft servers, VPN, file sharing, DHCP/DNS/Wifi, bluetooth are some examples of basic level things systemd can help regular users manage.

Systemd goes far beyond that too.

  • Can't you use nail polish and clear coat for tiny scratches?

  • It's really hard to [accidentally] permanently break Linux to the point of requiring a reinstall.

Here's a really good tip: Keep a live distro (I use Mint) on a USB drive. If something real bad happens, you can boot into the live distro, and chroot into your OS and do the repairs you need. While also having a live distro with web access and a browser to help.

I broke my GRUB once (or twice) and fixed it again this way.

Keep a backup of your /boot folder, GRUB (or equivalent) configs, etc, also check documentation on Arch wiki for boot process. 99.9% of the time you should be able to fix things to at least get to a TTY after boot.

  • Do you know if there is a way to generate a ansible playbook based on your current deployment state?

Or do you need to painstakingly manually code every unique facet of your system into the playbook?

  • ** That seems like a great way to encourage pedophilia.**

    100% disagree.

Pedos aren't into young looking people, they are into young people. The whole point is that they aren't an adult, aren't mature in the head, etc. I have no proof but I doubt that many pedos frequent that sub.

The thought of a like, actually young is a massive turn off for me. Young looking is fine, but an actual child is 🤮. Like, if I saw some hot chick who looked 25 but was actually 16 I would have the same reaction. I would like to think that reaction is pretty normal.

Isn't this in the same vein as like, mature/milf/gilf/etc just the other end of the spectrum?

  • I've had some amazing fantasy conversations with LLMs running on my own GPU. Family and world history, tribal traditions, flora and fauna, etc. It's quite amazing and fun.

  • No, no need at all to worry about that kind of thing.

AI (LLMs) are still just a box that spits out things when you put things in. It is a digital Galton board. That's it.

This is not going to take over the world.

  • Newpipe is the best client on Fdroid, but I don't know if you can use multiple (or even any) account with it

  • Ok, can you tell me why it matters if the host gives the nonsense a sheen of legitimacy?

  • It's not me buddy. I've been on the internet long enough to know how people with these kind of fetishes abuse these 'natural events' to their advantage.
