  • Same here. I just don't give a fuck. I do whatever is the least friction to me, a lot of times pirating is the best option.

    • Music, can't easily play it everywhere I want with spotify or youtube music? Pirate
    • Movies, scattered allover with different pricing models? Pirate
    • Film comes out and want to watch with friends? Go to the movie theatre.
    • TV on the BBC I can easily watch, just watch there (pay TV licence).
    • TV that comes to the UK later than the US? Pirate
    • Game is a good price on steam, buy.
    • Game is time locked to the premium edition buyers (Starfield), Pirate.
    • Obscure premium podcast, buy because it's not elsewhere and has an RSS feed. (Plus I don't mind supporting some creators)

Basically, I have plenty of spare cash and will pirate or buy depending on whatever works for me, not what works for them.

  • Might actually be a good shout.

    Switch 1 had a 720p screen with a 1080p max TV output. That's approx a 2x increase in throughput.

With Switch 2 it's expected to be a 1080p screen and a 4k output, that's a 4x increase in pixel throughput. So a 2x output increase might not be adequate.

However, it is widely expected to have DLSS, which would greatly reduce that requirement.

  • Big time. Their chassis design will dictate performance too. They will get the best chip they can in a cost budget and then thermal/battery limits will dictate where that chip actually lies.

The steam deck is cool and a great device but the Switch 2 will be sleeker and nintendo won't settle for a 90min battery a whiney fan, and that has trade offs.

  • Yep. I had a pixel 5. I got sucked in and bought a pixel 6 pro. It's literally the same apart from the zoom looks better and the phone is bigger.

I did have modem issues with the 6Pro so I got the 7 Pro and the phone is the same apart from the odd change.

So for me going from a Pixel 5, I gained pretty much nothing, man I miss that phone.

  • Here's some that I follow:

    • Anandtech^1: Great general tech website, has some deep dives. It did used to be a lot better
    • Chips and Cheese^2: Insane deep dives into architectures and chips.
    • More than Moore^3: Ex Anandtech editor in chief, does great breakdowns of new AI tech and silicon.
    • igor's Lab^4: Does some great deep dives into various GPU and CPU issues.
    • KGOnTech^5: Only just followed this blog, seems to do a good teardown on the apple headset.
    • Krebs on Security^6: Blog by one of the best security researchers and breaks down vulnerabilities
    • EE Times^7: Good well written site with overviews on many areas in tech
    • Techspot Featured Articles^8: Mainly gaming and GPU/CPU, but does some good articles exploring games, tech etc
  • You should though. I have a Pixel 7 Pro. I've seen all the reviews/tests showing how bad of a chip it is. But in day to day use it's fast snappy and pretty good.

it does however warm the device a lot and warmth = battery loss.

Tensor G1 and G2 would probably be absolutely fine if fabbed on TSMC.

  • Indeed. The issue for these companies. If phones aren't enticing enough and people start hanging onto devices for an extra year that effecticely cuts their revenue in 1/4.

That's why icloud got more expensive, it's why google is trying to monetise your web history for ads. They're looking for further revenue.
