  • That. is. gorgeous. Congrats friend.

I’m a noob, what do you mean by "3 way PCB"? (I understand the "PCB" part, but not the "3 way" part.)

  • So I’m guessing this was before actual ears were invented, and all you got was a couple dumb tiny holes to pick up the noise?

  • I understand how you’d extend reproach to the employees of a bad business. I don’t feel it personally though. Solidarity for all workforce trumps it in my heart. Maybe it’s my family ties with active union members.

In gamedev particularly, a lot of creators get in there mainly because of their passion for the medium. Then they get chewed up by shit work conditions. Ultimately dream job type positions are especially vulnerable to abusive management.

  • Oh no! Venture capital has moved to AI! (Anyways.) The article goes on to talk about humongous corporations making dubious decisions and toppling over themselves. Are we supposed to lament Ubisoft’s demise now?

Expedition 33 just came out of nowhere to great acclaim. Valve is hosting a thriving market & slowly but surely freeing PC gaming from Microsoft’s grip. SILK SONG IS DUE THIS YEAR MY FRIENDS. Everyone’s wishlist is as long as their backlog. The bar to entry for development has never been lower. Video gaming is an established medium at this point. A handful of corporative giants infected with a rotten management culture matters little. What essentially matters to me is for the creators out of a job to find new footing.

  • Remember this thread is about a bot commodifying the production of cumshot videos from any person's photo. I fail to see any nuance here. There is only one use: generating porn featuring people that don't want to. Decency rules continues to apply to general use tools as it always did.

  • The line is consent. Always has been.

EDIT: so many of you bending over backwards defending that creepy shit. Mind boggling.

  • Fine I'll repeat. Generating nonconsensual sex videos is not in your mind. Focus mate. Y'all clearly gotta lay off the LLMs, it's bad for your cognition.

  • Generating nonconsensual sexual videos is not something you think, it’s something you do.

  • Hello! I’m Québécois and as such happily defy all Canadian obligations. The USA gave the elections to the liberals by threatening Canada’s sovereignty. This is because the Conservatives favour the prairies, where there is a strong pro USA sentiment. Alberta’s PM Danielle Smith reminded everybody of that by conniving at Mar-a-Lago while the other provinces were trying hard to show a united front. In the meanwhile Conservative Leader Poilievre took forever to address the issue since he knew part of his base actually wants to be ’murican.

So by now Carney is PM for sure, but it’s not been called yet if it’ll be a minority or majority. I’m not excited about having a paragon of neoliberalism as federal leader (still better than Poilievre sigh) so I’m hoping for a minority.

  • I do gardening

  • I think you underestimate how offensive casually using AI slop instead of human material to communicate comes off as. As you've just made clear, you're a mod and you intend to give the example so I urge you to get more informed about the many condemnable actions that go into generative AI.

  • Yes yes that’s it! I’m happy now ~ thanks!

  • (A few days ago I skimmed a super cool post about Steam's relationship with Linux that says what you're saying and now I want to give it a thorough read but I can't find it

. If anyone remembers and has a link to it I'd be super happy

  • I’m playing Cassette Beasts lately too! It’s such a good monster collector. The low poly 3D+2D aesthetic is on point and it’s real cozy. They don’t hide their Pokémon inspiration but they do their own thing with it and I really like their take. It feels both kinder and more stimulating. I love that basically all battles are doubles.

  • Also Google's now retired motto: "Don't Be Evil".

  • Good on you for owning up and best of luck. You did well being transparent about your process. I’m going to add two things about generative AI:

    • Writing is thinking. If you’re interested in thinking, then be all means do it yourself. You don’t need to have perfect grammar, syntax and such. Lots of extraordinary authors don’t. Strive for improvement, don’t worry about perfection.
    • Absolutely beware of generative AI’s biases. They may actually amplify their sources’ biases while occluding them. AI text is just rehashed human text, with all that it entails.
  • I’m not going to read in detail a text you can’t be assed to write in detail. From a glean I’ll say two things:

    • Your alternative voices are basically all privileged white guys commenting carefully from the sidelines. How is that a counterbalance to Chinese activists literally disappearing? You know what it means to disappear in China, right?
    • The common thread of your text is one massive, obvious false dilemma. It’s common knowledge that China is under a repressive regime, that the POTUS gives clear signals of envying such regimes, AND that democracy has issues. We can and do talk about all of them.
  • Right? We got two opinions on genAI among our non techs:

    • "genIA is a joke and cannot replace human creation."
    • "Are our programmers writing all the codes instantaneously with genAI yet? Our competitive edge is at stake! O the productivity!"

There’s definitely an opening there, but it’s an uphill battle.
