  • This is very true the idea would not be the savor but just a pair of hands to help. Also in this scenario remember I know the future so i could have a greater impact but just having that information. You also have to remember there were some white people that were icons in the civil rights movement. It was not about one race clawing it's way up against another race. It was people of both races coming together against inequality and bigotry. If an ally is turned away just because they are white then it's just a race war and the ownership class win.

  • Wine and proton are the same valve takes wine and adds some tweaks to it to work beter for games. Wine can work in a pinch but I wouldn't rely on it for your workflow as wine could always be playing catch up when your software updates versions.

Wine/Proton is a translation layer that translates windows system calls Linux system calls. So if wine/proton doesn't have a feature windows has for your knew version then it will break. That's okay for games but for something you need for work that can be a deal breaker. If you can switching to something Linux native will benefit you in the long run.

  • It's like everyone forgot about open ID but also having accounts tied to the an instance is not the problem with good export and import. Communities are what we need to have abstraction on just like IRC if I go to @games i should see threads from all instances on the network. Just like everyone in an IRC network can talk in the same channel even though they connect on different IRC servers.

  • Rich people both wish for them to die and also at the same time buy all the products their stock portfolio need to show value.

What we should do is grind up just a few mega rich and create a healthy socal safety net to make sure everyone is safe and well fed.

  • That's the thing though you really don't have to deal with old packages. The ones that count are in the backports repo and for everything else there's is flatpak. Plus I think the reason steamos switched from Debian to arch was the methodology changed from being mutable to immutable and making it more for a handheld vs installed on many systems. It had nothing to do with the quality of the distro.

  • I think the the other issue is reporting of events is split into thousands of sources. Just like with media there is no longer a shared conversation between everyone. Back in the day. If Walter Cronkite talked about it everybody knew about it. But know everything is fractured into their own subcultures and to extent their own realities.

  • Most people don't read them. It reminds me of back before the AI days when you would have to spend time writing up those email summaries to send the team only that nobody reads them. I proved this to my boss that for 4 weeks straight I embedded that to the first person to email this +email gets $50. I never had to pay out because I was right 4 weeks in a row before I stopped. So many emails and newsletters in companies are done just because it's just how it's done for proper communication. Its just mindless busy work that wastes my time.
