  • WTF is a seedbox?

I have no trouble listening to unlimited music, it's literally everywhere.

Plus it's not just about owning the album (although I absolutely insist on listening on whichever device I choose). It's also about paying the artist.

Sp0tify pays peanuts. When I buy the album from the band's site or bandcamp they get a hell of a lot more money from me. And I want to support them.

You cannot support any artist through Spotify.

  • Spotify is garbage. You pay them to basically pirate unlimited music (they pay table scraps). They have no values or integrity, but they do have a greedy business model.

I buy albums off bandcamp instead. Or from the artist's site directly.

  • Sure... But if there is a massive incidence of these "wounds" then therapy and self help is too little too late.

Why is nobody ITT talking about the causes of this wave of misery? We are putting all the responsibility on individual men to show their vulnerability with no interest in solving the initial problems!

  • Can you offer some examples of where "being vulnerable" led a man out of depression?

I do agree that there is a culture of masculine shame around mental health, and it can be unhealthy. But I've also seen that those who share their feelings don't get the promotion, tend to make coworkers uncomfortable, drive women away. Life is still a competition and vulnerability is genuinely risky.

I've seen bullies strategically share false vulnerability to garner sympathy. Genuine vulnerability often looks gross from a man, and is unlikely to lead to positive outcomes.

Most importantly, this new wave of mental health problems is not caused by a new wave of "not being vulnerable." It's a societal issue and must be confronted there, not shunted onto each individual man.

  • Therapy is never a cure. If you have a problem then therapy can help you confront it and deal with it, but if we have a massive society-wide mental health crisis it will not be solved by each man individually seeking therapy.

We need meaning in our lives, something worth dedicating ourselves to, and the means to pursue it. Mercenary capitalism won't provide that.

In short, I don't see an answer. I think it will get worse.

    Addendum:

Most importantly, this new wave of mental health problems is not caused by a new wave of "not being vulnerable." It's a societal issue and must be confronted there, not shunted onto each individual man.

  • Instead, you can host your own instance and block everybody, and stop telling your fellow lemurians to fuck off, and stop pretending that sharing a very common opinion is "bItcHinG"

    You are just a troll.

  • It's not slippery slope because we have already been instance-hopping as every instance defederates and bans and defederates and bans, all the while we are ridiculed for expressing a desire to be connected, told to get lost.

  • You're right, the existence of a tool justifies any abusive use of the tool. Every instance should block every community and we should all get our own private instances and block each other.

  • deal with it or make your own instance.

We will deal with it by raising concerns among our peers, even as you callously tell us to leave. You make your own instance and leave others to communicate openly without your ugliness.

  • Maybe you can host your own private instance and smirk as you block everybody while the rest of us communicate.

This nonstop suggestion of "hOst yOuR oWn iNstAnCe" is rarely a good solution. They already know it's an option. You never provide anything when you say it, except to display your own smug smirk as you tell your fellow lemurian to get lost.
