  • At the time of the meeting, Khan was facing investigation over sexual misconduct claims. Two weeks later Khan stepped down on indefinite leave following the publication by the Wall Street Journal of new and more serious sexual assault allegations.

I obviously don't know anything about the veracity of the sexual misconduct or sexual assault allegations, but the timing of this stuff makes it seem like Israel is at least involved in raising these allegations. And it's exactly the sort of tactics that would likely be used to carry out such a threat.

  • “I go home, I tell the first lady: I spoke with Vladimir today. We had a wonderful conversation. She said: Really? Another city was just hit.”

Why does she know about this before the President of the United States? Why is the President of the United States having discussions with Putin without knowing this information?

Trump is openly admitting that he's completely incompetent as President.

  • A few things. My policy for all people is that if they ask me for something specific, then I will not give it to them on the spot. Doesn't matter whether it's panhandling or selling something or asking for signatures. I don't like being put on the spot, so I'm going to either research it on my own or follow some policy.

My policy about panhandling is to give money to food charities instead. Not because I think it's wrong to give them things, but because it makes more sense for me logically and emotionally.

Emotionally first. I don't get that emotional rush that other people seem to get for giving out money to a needy person, but I do feel a lot of remorse if I think it was a mistake. Sometimes, their response to a donation makes you feel really bad, and you don't ever get that if you just ignore them.

Logically next. A person without a home cannot buy food as efficiently as even a badly run charity. They don't have a refrigerator or even a safe place to store food, so they're forced to buy ready to eat food at several times the cost. Even if I did hand out money to individuals, I wouldn't do it without a budget. It just makes a lot more sense to give the same money to a charity, instead.

  • Why don't people read before they respond?

It takes a small fraction of the time and effort, and they still have to read the responses to their comment to get the benefit.

  • I once got my very pro-Trump very Christian aunt to agree that Trump wasn't Christian and that many of the things he's done go against Christian teachings.

By the next day, she was already posting tons of pro-Trump garbage on social media again. Because that's what compartmentalization and cognitive dissonance mean.

And she had built so much of her identity around this billionaire grifter that she was unable to change.

I don't know what the best way is to deal with these types of people, but in my case, I just completely cut her out of my life. There doesn't seem to be any purpose to communicating with a person who is incapable of learning.

  • How many billions of people have we got? It seems like the universe is very good at scaling.

And even if it crashes, why would that mean it disappears? If your computer crashes, does it typically stop working forever, or can you fix it?

For all we know, maybe it already crashes a lot and there is just no way for us to know about it.

  • Due to sacrificing the development of its ear to permit it to dig more efficiently, the Mexican mole lizard has evolved to have its skin transmit vibrations to the cochlea.

A normal ear also works by having skin transmit vibrations to the cochlea.

  • The Chinese government is more hands on with businesses than the US. Like, they even put members of the government onto the company's board.

That's the sort of behavior that makes me suspect that a lot of Chinese businesses are intentionally operating at a loss at the direction of the CCP to undercut international business.

American politicians do similar things, but it's more about corruption rewarding companies who support politicians. China is doing it much more pointedly and deliberately. That's why they're seeing such good results lately.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if the oligarchs are doing this so that they can continue the research, but not release it to the public. Just like how it's not enough for them to be rich; they need everyone else to be poor, they might want to live long healthy lives while everyone else is sickly and dies young.

  • Also, government creation contracts are called constitutions. Lots of countries have them.

I also enjoy pedantic arguments, but I try to remember to avoid them when I think the topic is important. I had to stop myself from arguing against this point, because even if I won the argument, it wouldn't mean anything.
