AMEN! I asked recently if there was a good Linux alternative to this program I used in Windows called "Bulk Rename Utility" and i was flooded by people telling me how easy it was to set up a script to do what I want.
Turns out the best alternative is running BRU in Wine.
I get this, but even as the op here, I do want to say I'm not saying any of these things you brought up are invalid ways to exist in a shared public space. People who "rap blast" as you say - what about rock or metal? What about country or electronic music? What if I am blasting the theme from Katamari Damacy at the gas station and genuinely enjoying myself?
I question the amusement levels of these explosions. But I have to disagree with some of this other stuff, which is valid in a public space albeit could be considered annoying in a similar way.
I switched to pop os recently and I'm never going back to Windows. It's easier now than ever to switch to Linux, even for gamers. Steam, proton, and wine have made running your Windows apps and games in Linux so easy. You'd have to have a very specific use case to justify staying with Windows now.
Here's a fun one: I own two video capture devices, an Elgato HD 60 S and an Avermedia LiveGamer Portable 2. Both do not work in Linux. I found a simple USB HDMI capture device that works in Linux and cost a fraction of what thosmother overhyped ones cost me. It works way better than they ever did. That was one of my last adjustments. I can still stream my Switch and PS5 on Twitch, no problem.
I hope you're enjoying the discussion, and I hope you are understanding a lot of the excellent points made here, because I have not seen you engaging with anyone so far, at least not in the Hot replies. I was hoping to see that engagement. I don't have much to add that has not already been added. It's hard to unwrap the hate and bigotry from conservative ideology nowadays. Even so-called mainstream conservative ideas like "tax cuts for businesses and the wealthy will create more money and prosperity for everyone" rings pretty hollow after over 40 years of that sort of ideology having been very thoroughly put into practice with very little benefit one could name. It's hard to engage when you can just sort of gesture to the current state of things and the lives of people who have grown up in the last 4 decades as being self-evident of the failure of that idea.
Basically, I ask, what does conservatism have to offer, really? I am completely open-minded and would listen, but you would have to do better than just repeating the same tired things I have heard my whole life, having grown up in a conservative catholic household and over 43 years slowly but surely drifting to the socialist atheist person I am now. Better believe I've heard a lot and am well-read. And there are a lot of people out there just like me.
I made an account here on lemm.ee but I can't login to any other lemmy instance (lemmy.world, beehaw.org, etc) and I thought it was supposed to be cross-login. Is it due to the influx of traffic from reddit that this is just not working as intended, or have I done something incorrectly?
Edit: Oh I see how it works. I can see content from all those other places if I go into Communities and then click All. Sorry for being a noob, I hope another noob sees this and learns!
