There's also a harm reduction message board that I joined in 2000. It was the center of my existence for years. I traveled all over the country hanging out with people I met on the board. Had a ton of fun, did a bunch of stupid things, ran from the cops a few times, almost died a few times... I even ended up shacking up with a girl I met on the board for a few years. This board helped me turn my 20's into a vague blur of gonzo madness... And it's still running. I'll pop in from time to time to see how it's going but it'll never be like it was back in the heyday. That's probably for the best though, since I'm too old for that life now.
Reddit mostly replaced a lot of the places I used to go. Now that I'm off Reddit I'm trying to find ways to get back into decentralized communities like those.
There's also a Family Guy episode that touches on this issue... but it's less philosophical since neither version realizes the other exists. That and some doubles/originals die in convenient ways.
I'm from Cleveland. I'll take a week vacation and drive through NY, VT and NH every year or two. The drive is really amazing. It's really awesome how you can just be cruising down a remote county road at 60 mph, going over hills and around bends then BOOM, you need to drop to 30 because there's a few hundred yards of really old houses and maybe an old church or gas station or pharmacy... then one Dollar General... then back to miles of 60mph of scenic nothing.
I don't disagree with you, which is why I'm hoping the person I replied to, who told me to "do some searches" actually does some for themselves. So hopefully they can learn that there's hardly an epidemic of porn viewing related risks to physical/mental health. I'm not saying there are zero, I'm simply saying that it's not at all occurring at levels worthy of mandating warnings.
Audiogalaxy Satellite. This was THE BEST mp3 service available. It was an index of privately run FTP servers. It was 97, I had just gotten cable internet. I went to spring break for a week, left my server up with a 1.5 ratio. Came back to a hard drive full of shitty late 90's pop. Literally full. Which wasn't saying much since my HD at the time was maybe 2 gigs.
