  • Snapdragon 7+gen 3 makes it worth it IMO. Its leaps ahead of dimensity 9000 with better power efficiency and performance. The battery life is good too. They improved the water and dust resistance to IP65 from IP54. The software update police has improved significantly from 3-4 years of OS & security updates to 4-6 years of OS and security updates.

The camera could've been improved but I think the metal body, improved update policy and the 7+gen3 processor took a good chunk of the budget.

No charger in the box is a scummy move any way you slice it. At least should've given a launch day offer of giving the fast charger.

  • But, this has better power efficiency compared to dimensity 9200+. Using dimensity would've meant lower battery life.

  • Mediatek makes good processors. It's not like the old days. The flagship dimensity 9300+ for example is more efficient compared to snapdragon 8 gen 3. Plus, you can't always be sure with snapdragon releasing heaters like 8 gen 1, 888, or the infamous 810.

But, yeah 7+gen3 is superior to most everything except flagship hardware.

  • Not sure if you read the article. But, its not full metal. It's a 2-tone design with the top part of the camera island being a glass design.

  • Pros

    • Solid, standout all-metal design.
    • One of the best-in-class battery life.
    • Excellent chipset performance for the class.
    • Main camera produces nice stills day and night.
    • Competitive fast charging solution.
    • 4 years of major software updates.

    Cons

    • Selfie and ultrawide cameras are meh, no EIS in 4K.
    • Refresh rate control is inconsistent; rarely uses 120Hz.
    • No bundled charger (in Europe).
  • S10e. I was talking more about current devices. The next device you upgrade too should be better. Be it samsung, pixel, fairohone, oneplus, etc.

  • From what I had read. It had modem issues which may've contributed to poor battery life.

  • Ah, xiaomi. I don't know if it's the same with Mi branded smartphones. But, that was my experience with Redmi smartphones.

  • Bummer, this increases the friction for upgrades.

  • Didn't lineageOS allow OTA updates like regular android smartphones?

  • Borked update by manufacturer. What device if I may ask?

  • Your choice is making sure to buy a well supported, timely updated device. If you can't is a different issue. But, if you don't is on you. Vote with your wallet.

  • Nice joke. Voyager informs about this mischief

  • I saw that. But, shared the article because of the battery tests.

  • I prefer aacubattery but this is ok

  • Battery consumption also depends on other factors like the speed of your network connection. If your VPN network is slow the battery usage would be higher.

  • True, but outside of buying midrange smartphones from Nothing, oneplus, samsung. What else can you do?

  • You could get the pixel 8 when its on discount. It would continue to get updates for years to come.
