  • Fdroid has always been the go to platform for Foss apps.

  • I have seen this inconsistency with notebookcheck. They list phones as having low PWM frequency when the manufacturer lists a much higher frequency.

But, yes there are many manufacturers who sell low PWM displays.

  • The OLED panel uses pulse width modulation (PWM) to control its brightness. This means that it flickers at a low frequency of 120 Hz across all the brightness levels we measured, which may be problematic for sensitive users.

    This means?!

However, the display also works using high-frequency PWM dimming to compensate for the negative effects of PWM flickering. We measured a PWM dimming frequency of 3,846 Hz. How high it should nominally be is not stated in the phone's datasheet.

    Which is it?

  • Who asked? If they cared about users they would install F-droid not Epic store.

  • On android you also have Shizuku and Canta.

  • Or you can install Shizuku and App OPS to remove the clipboard permission and many more from apps.

  • Newer motorola smartphones promise 5 years of software updates. Everyone before is screwed. But, buying the newest should be fine if they research before making a purchase.

  • This will limit phones without longterm software support. The ones which don't provide decent enough software support will be left in the dust.

  • If you lose your iPhone or buy an upgrade, you could reasonably expect to be up and running after an hour, presuming you backed up your prior model. Your Apple stuff all comes over, sure, but most of your third-party apps will still be signed in.

Interesting, I didn't know Iphones did this. Will reduce the friction even more when switching phones.

  • One thing to note. They still exist on your phone. But, are uninstalled for the primary user.

  • Not buying a carrier locked device would be a start.

  • Well, you don't need to switch. But, you can help your friends and family switch by setting up Firefox with Ublock-Origin.

If they see the benefits. They will stick

  • One limitation that persists with most implementations of Realme UI and Color OS (OnePlus seemingly excluded as of late) is the refresh rate and frame rate cap on most games - it's still 60Hz/60fps. Only a handful of titles can go up to 120fps - FreeFire Max, PUBG (Battlegrounds Mobile India), Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Honor of Kings.

  • Pros

    • IP69 in addition to the regular IP68 - underwater mode enabled!
    • Display is bright beyond reason, excellent overall.
    • Class-leading battery life.
    • One of the first to market with the new and super-powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
    • Competent camera system for most things.

    Cons

    • A better ultrawide camera wouldn't have hurt, selfies are meh.
    • Video stabilization isn't optimal.
    • Gaming is limited to 60fps, except for 5-6 popular titles.
  • Ah, yes obviously. We are behind because we can't exploit our workers but our rivals can. There's no doubt Samsung would work their workers to the bone if they resided in china.

  • In addition to that, other Android distributions have also moved "child process limit" to developer options, which may forebode them removing it, and breaking termux entirely. This is pretty scary IMO.

Can't you toggle the child process limit in those android distributions you speak off?

  • Because, this is the data they saved in the super partition. You cannot dynamically change that on a production device.

  • You mentioned Bootloader Unlock so I was going to day Pixel. But, then I remembered they use Tensor instead of 8 Elite.

Your options will be limited to 8 Elite smartphones supporting phones which allow that.

  • Super cute

  • TL;DR

    • Google announced that the next major version of Android (Android 16) will be released in Q2 of 2025, which is several months earlier than usual.
    • Google’s VP and GM of the Android Platform told me in an interview how the company was able to move the release forward by so much.
    • The Android trunk stable project gave Google confidence that it could roll out updates faster and more frequently without breaking things.
