  • Ubuntu installation not being able to detect my Nvidia GPU

NVidia and Linux... don't get along very well. They've also been caught violating the GPL in their drivers, resulting in the kernel being hardcoded to block them in some instances. There is good reason why Valve picked an AMD APU in their handheld

Ubuntu partition at work today and finding out my Bluetooth mouse stopped working with it

Modern bluetooth controllers store the paired devices on their onboard memory, rather than only in the OS (allowing your bluetooth peripherals to work in the BIOS etc). If the two paired device lists fall out of sync, this could lead to erroneous behavior, especially since you're dual booting two completely different operating systems using completely different driver implementations to talk to your hardware

Just wanted to share why things are broken - not trying to persuade you to change your workflow. Use whatever works best for you!

  • For anyone running a ROM based very closely on AOSP, the ability to disable Fast Pair was sadly not built into the OS until Android 14

Before Android 14, it is possible that Google has backported this setting to your device using Play Services. It can be found under Google Settings, Devices and sharing, Devices, and "Show Notifications"

  • I used to pass all the data through to Home Assistant and show it on some dashboards, but I decided to move over to Zabbix.

Works well but is quite full-featured, maybe moreso than necessary for a self hoster. Made a mediatype integration for my announciator system so I hear issues happening with the servers, as well as updates on things, so I don't really need to check manually. Also a custom SMART template that populates the disk's physical location/bay (as the built in one only reports SMART data).

It's notified me of a few hardware issues that would have gone unnoticed on my previous system, and helped with diagnosing others. A lot of the sensors may seem useless, but trust me, once they flag up you should 100% check on your hardware. Hard drives losing power during high activity because of loose connections, and a CPU fan failure to name two.

It has a really high learning curve though so not sure how much I can recommend it over something like Grafana+Prometheus - something I haven't used but the combo looks equally as comprehensive as long as you check your dashboard regularly.

Just wish there were more android apps

  • Basically I am using mull on android and librewolf on linux

You may prefer to skip Mozilla entirely and self host your own Firefox Sync: https://github.com/mozilla-services/syncstorage-rs

Otherwise, i've been using Firefox Sync for years and haven't had a single issue with it.

Regarding data sharing, do note that your Firefox Account email address is shared with Troy Hunt (haveibeenpwned) via the Firefox Monitor service, so Firefox can warn you if you have suffered a data breach. Deleting your account is the only way to opt out of that. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-opt-out-firefox-monitor

I personally have no issue with it as he's a well known security consultant - BUT the caveat being that he's a Microsoft regional director, you couldn't know if that data is being shared any further.

  • Take a step back for a second.

From what I see, you've been given a lot of chances by various mods so far, across your very large quantity of alt accounts on several instances.

Posting a comment like this is not very nice IMO, regardless of how you feel about the OP. In most communities this would be an instant ban for harassment. Looking at a separate example you posted to your lemmy community !dronerights@lemm.ee, that beehaw admin was extremely patient with you and tried their hardest not to ban you, but you continued.

How would you feel if someone started attacking you on every single post you made? And then started creating alt accounts to evade it? It would get annoying after a while, and from there only escalate. Even if one user called you something you consider nasty, that isn't a reason to persistently go out of your way to attack them.

If you can, please reconsider how you interact with people on Lemmy, you could eventually end up pushing the admins to a point where they take a more heavy handed approach towards you and your alts

  • Not that I'm aware of.

What device specs? Android OS could be warning mull about its memory usage when it's moved to the background, causing the browser to quickly offload whatever it can to be kept partially in memory. Alternatively Android could just be killing mull's tab processes due to too many background apps running, only keeping mull's main executable cached for faster re-launch.

A restart might temporarily alleviate it if you've not restarted your device in a while, particularly if you still have this issue despite closing other apps

  • Even a really low end ebike can do better than that, and compared to the 300k price tag of this flying car, the cost of said ebike would literally be a rounding error.

Speaking of price tag, you could buy a REAL plane, a cessna 310, with a 1000 mile range (870 nautical) for less than the cost of this!

  • Wow, this sounds a lot more serious than session hijacking. Are they straight up using Chrome's special token to generate brand new Google Account session tokens?

If so, i'm not sure how Google is going to fix that without wrecking the Chrome user experience for non tech savvy individuals

  • Two easiest options based on some general assumptions, not ideal but should work:

    • Connect the WAN port on the second router to any LAN port on your first/primary router. To change router settings you'll need to change networks. If this doesn't work, then it's possible both routers are issuing DHCP addresses for the same subnet. Connect to either one of the routers and change the subnet to something else.
    • Disable DHCP on the second router, manually assign it an IP address within the DHCP subnet of your first router, and connect any of the second router's LAN ports directly into any LAN port on your first/primary router. Leave the WAN port on the second router unnoccupied. You can change settings on either router you can be on either network

    Slightly more advanced territory:

What routers are you working with? If these are standard off-the-shelf routers, you should be able to set up VLANs and separate wireless networks to isolate your IOT and personal devices, and set the IOT wlan to only broadcast on 2.4GHz.

Also how familiar are you with networking? This might need some knowledge of subnets, VLANs and a few other bits, particularly in regards to configuring your router's dhcp settings, and other stuff so you can (optionally) access devices on the IOT network from your personal devices network.

You might get more help crossposting to the much larger !selfhosted@lemmy.world though.

  • Just subbed to !anime@ani.social

Because of all the defederation stuff and most users being vocally negative about anime in general here, I previously assumed that it was blocked by a lot of instances and didn't think to actually check.

Moving it makes sense because ani.social seems more like the home for anime on Lemmy, in the same way how programming.dev focuses on programming, discuss.tchncs.de focuses on DIY/electronics, and lemmy.dbzer0.com focuses on digital maritime and copyleft etc.

  • Seeding without port forwarding is really slow IMO because often you're seeding to someone who is mostly a seeder themselves. Most leechers have it disabled so they can't really establish a connection in either direction between themselves AFAIK, putting extra pressure on the seeders with open ports

I moved away from using an older Pi for this because of the exact same issue 😂 as soon as you're seeding to any quantity of leechers the thing slows to a crawl with the CPU maxed out

  • One of their partners in that region already established a brand under the same name.

    From https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/difference-between-firefox-focus-and-firefox-klar

Klar by Firefox is the German-language version and only available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It includes the same features as the English-language app Focus by Firefox.

Why did we change the name/replace the app?

The publishing and media company Burda, which the news magazine FOCUS belongs to in Germany, is one of our partners. We therefore decided to replace our app "Focus by Firefox" in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by "Klar by Firefox".
