Given the current state of politics all over the world, it looks more like isolationism and hatred are the ruling principles for years to come.
It's really baffling to see that the left in almost all Western countries managed to destroy itself completely and left the fields of their respective countries to the fascists.
I don't know if that was ever different, but I'm pretty sure that a lot of that is journalists taking themselves way too seriously.
Even the paid sites are often enough filled with tabloid level crap, fluffed up news agency printouts and those god awful "reports" that start with a 500 word description of the door of the interviewee. That's not journalism and most people are not willing to pay for that.
I tried several subscriptions over the years and honestly, the articles that really added something can be counted on one or two hands. I'm sure I missed a lot of good and valuable articles, but I'm not ready to sift through tons of crap to find a few gems.
What I find really fascinating here is that obviously openAI, Meta, etc. seem to be structurally incapable of actually innovating at this point.
I mean, reducing training costs by literally an order of magnitude just by writing better software is astonishing and shows how complacent the large corporations have gotten.
Deepseek showed that actually putting thought into the architecture achieves much more than just throwing more hardware at the problem.
This means a) there will be much less demand for hardware, since much more could be run locally on regular consumer devices. And b) the export restrictions don't really work and instead force China to create actually better models.
That means, a lot of the investments into the thousands of AI companies are in jeopardy.
At least for programming/Linux stuff, it often enough actually does deliver keywords, that you can use as jumping off points. The proposed solutions however....
These protests are often enough extremely mild but get prosecuted like terrorist, while much more violent protests get a slap on the wrist at max.
Here in Germany, right wing farmers protested by illegally blocking entire cities with their tractors, much worse interruptions than the glued-to-the-street teenager, and they actually threatened violence. Yet, only a handful of them got any form of legal trouble, and that only for petty stuff.
Guess, which protesters threatened the status quo and which just wanted more money out of the system?
Me too. Twice. Same message, same picture, two different users.
