  • How is that not criminal destruction of property? Some of those books may not even be replaceable. 😠 You could also say criminal intimidation of protected minority groups by an obviously targeted political act.

  • This is why whenever I read an article reporting on a scientific study, I always click the source link to read the abstract of the actual paper (or more if it isn't behind a fucking paywall, but the abstract gives the gist of what was studied and the results).

  • Authoritarianism and religion go hand in hand. Both are rising together in the form of Christian nationalism.

  • I read that ICE and CBP are using that signal app fork that Hegseth et al are using, and that has already been hacked, so it should be easy enough for them to take it from there, I guess.

  • Probably all the same company tracking which variations in how they advertise it get the most clicks.

  • Take paid time off (PTO) means take your vacation time (or combined vacation/sick time). Otherwise no one would pick the "come in and clean or train" option.

I once worked at a place where every year they shut down the week between Christmas and New Year's and you had to take a week of your vacation time then whether you wanted to or not (and we only got 2 weeks/yr). I started working there the first week of December, so I was immediately in the hole for 1 week of vacation time. It was such bullshit.

  • Trump's officials are quietly concerned about his "blatant criminal behavior."

I don't buy that for a second. They absolutely love it.

  • But they didn't discount the car, just the finance rate, so yeah, not a news story.

  • We do irradiate various foods, have been doing it for many years. The commenters who immediately started ranting about "how stupid we are" didn't seem to check first. I first learned that we did it with strawberries and a few other things many years ago (in the 90's maybe), but never bothered to looked up exactly what all foods we irradiate. So I don't know about alfalfa sprouts, but I suppose there are probably reasons why it's done with some things and not others, such as which ones it's safer and/or more effective on, and how it affects the quality of different foods.

The FDA first approved the use of irradiation in 1963 to kill pests in wheat and flour. To date, the FDA and the USDA have approved food irradiation for use on fruits, vegetables, spices, raw poultry, and red meats. https://www.fsis.usda.gov/food-safety/safe-food-handling-and-preparation/food-safety-basics/irradiation-and-food-safety-faq

  • Except they'd probably go for a blue state in the NE so the fallout would go to Europe instead of a west coast state where red states would get the fallout. OTOH, we're starting to see that trump doesn't give a shit about red states either (cut them off from disaster funding too).

  • Yeah, that's why I said "not sure", but I figured since they put a definition, it would be OK for me to also put a definition.

  • Not sure why you're putting a definition of abject here? Are you saying that they should have said abject instead of object? That would mean something different.

    object lesson
    noun
something that serves as a practical example of a principle or abstract idea
Examples of object lesson in a Sentence
His life story is an object lesson in how not to run a business.

  • I agree you guys helped stop us from electing Canada’s version of trump but I highly doubt the lesson learned will stick.

Well, maybe it wouldn't stick if what we've seen so far was the worst of it, but unfortunately it's just the beginning. The lesson will be getting much more intense soon.

Anyway best of luck to the sane Americans we will be joining you guys shortly.

    Thanks and I hope not!

  • Go ahead and laugh but you should thank us. You all were about to elect Pollivierre until we showed you what going down that road will lead to. As the US goes down in flames we can comfort ourselves that we've served as an example to others. We celebrate that Australia also sees the light. As you point and laugh, remember that "there but for the grace of god ability to learn from the mistakes of others go I". I remember in the '90's when Americans were gloating over the collapse of the Soviet Union I said, "Don't laugh, we're probably next." Yes, it took longer than I expected but here we are.

  • It's a great relief to come to the realization that there is no grand inherent meaning to life, and no need for one. No constant worrying about what the meaning is and how much time you have left to "figure it out", no need to feel like there's some big thing you have to accomplish, no pressure to be someone important or make an impact on the world. No need to find the correct religion or moral code. It's simple: we're all (humans and animals) just trying to live our lives in peace and find happiness, so as for goals: Live and let live. Try to not hurt each other, and better yet, help each other--helping1 someone isn't always easy but it's a good feeling. It creates a feeling of meaning/purpose better than most anything else I can think of.

1: besides doing some task for someone, it could also be as simple as a smile, a kind word, or just listening/being there.

  • I knew this fucking piece of shit would stop us from being able to get our vaccinations. I hate these rich, cruel, power-drunk self-aggrandizing monstrous killers so much! 😔 šŸ”„ šŸ”„ šŸ”„

  • That's still $9.87 million too much

  • Bezos is to Trump as Trump is to Putin. IOW they each grovel and obey in the hopes their master will give even a slight positive acknowledgement, but it never happens.

  • Lesson: Before you move into a new rental, find out who was there before and how long it's been empty. I can see this situation happening a lot as more targeted people move to avoid being found, and unknowing people move into the vacated rental unit.

Marisa said the agents tore apart every square inch of the house and what few belongings they had, seizing their phones, laptops and their life savings in cash as ā€œevidence.ā€

ā€œI told them before they left, I said you took my phone. We have no money. I just moved here,ā€ she said. ā€œI have to feed my children. I’m going to need gas money. I need to be able to get around. Like, how do you just leave me like this? Like an abandoned dog.ā€

As for Marissa’s phones, electronics, and cash, they have no idea which agency has those belongings or how to get those items back.

They're totally fucked. Each agency that was there denies responsibility and refers them to the next, which does the same.
