  • I'm always surprised that BotW isn't a bit higher up given how long it's been out for and the positive press it got. I guess it's not as casual as all the other games on this list (bar TotK, of course), but I thought it would still have wider appeal.

  • I didn't realise Bananza wasn't a launch title, although it's close. Gamecube didn't have a Mario or Zelda at launch. Its big first-party title was Luigi's Mansion. Not sure about handhelds, if they all had a mario at launch.

  • Really enjoyed Portal 1, and finished the co-op mode in Portal 2 today, so still got the single-player mode in Portal 2 to start on another day. I don't think I've ever actually played a multiplayer game before that required co-operation; it was things like Mario Odyssey or Kirby Forgotten Land where you can almost get through it all without the other player doing anything at all.

It's quite satisfying that I've got a bit stuck on some of the puzzles, but they are all still solvable without a guide. I think I've got into a habit in recent years of looking up a guide when I get stuck on a certain part of the game, but with Portal I really wanted to work it out on my own so didn't actually have a desire to look up the solution.

  • The thing that worries me here is the ones that are marked okay have passed "basic compatibility testing". What are the chances that when someone actually plays through them, something will be broken? Maybe slim, I don't know, but would there be a patch for those cases?

  • When I first saw MK World, I thought, "it's lucky I didn't get MK8 so I can get this instead", but then the main difference (besides tracks) was the open world thing, which doesn't look that appealing to me.

I'll say again how similar it is to MK on the Gamecube. Playing (a) SNES/GBA MK, (b) N64 MK, and (c) GC MK, they've three very distinctive driving feels, but with MK8, I can pick it up and all the muscle memory is there despite not playing MK for 20 years (although I haven't tried 200cc yet). It's already a near-perfect kart game, so there's not much they can do to improve it.

  • Nice. Yeah, it was only available for about 6 months.

On March 31, 2021, physical copies of 3D All-Stars were discontinued, and the game was delisted from the Nintendo eShop.

You can play Super Mario 64 on the N64 emulator, and in the future, Sunshine on the GC emulator, but being able to play Galaxy again might be a while off.

  • I was pretty underwhelmed by the footage of Mario Kart World for Switch 2, but I haven't played MK since Double Dash, so I was kind of interested... So I went and bought MK8. It's fine - pretty much what I expected, it feels exactly the same as double dash minus the cool two-drivers mechanic. I played a couple of rounds with the kids it it went okay.

  • That's the thing. I can hold off buying the Switch now, because there's nothing that's a must play being released this year. But when the next Zelda or two come out... Well. It's not like other franchises that might release as a console exclusive and make it to PC/whatever a year or two later. Nintendo games stay on Nintendo.

  • In my mind, all it boils down to is that Nintendo think that they can charge that much and would like us to believe it's worth it. Whether it is worth it is subjective and up to each individual. Most of us will probably be tighter with our choices in some way.

  • I felt that shinies were somehow more common in Arceus than Scarlet. I guess it's not too difficult in Scarlet if you can make enough of the right kind of sandwich, but in Arceus they simply seem to spawn randomly more often.

  • That's cheap. I'm with Virgin, and when I was checking Fibre deals a year or two ago, I'm sure they all required line rental which put the price way up. I can see it's much more reasonable now.
