Intentional, or just an idiot. I mean the man is not smart at all. Look at what he has said and done in the past. He also sucked as a businessman, contrary to popular belief.

I'm not worried there is some masterplan here, just worried those 4 years will go by too slowly.

This worked for me and was the only way to get my Epix Pro Gen2 to boot normally again. Hope Garmin releases a fix soon as this is only a workaround afaik.

Edit: I think this was related to uploading activities and not gps. Garmin sent me an email saying they fixed an issue on their end and how to reset the watch. Everything is working fine now again.
