  • I used Android exclusively for about 3-4 years, I was even developing ROMs, then switched to iPhone for work. I wouldn’t go back to Android. Most of the problems with iPhone don’t exist anymore.. the walls have mostly come down due to cloud based services and apps being able to use wifi to drag/drop files

IMO, iPhone is easy to use, great quality apps, great battery life, secure and best value for money. They have great resale for those people who upgrade every year, and long support for people who buy a phone every 5 years.

    They just work

The Android system just seems so disjointed and the App Store is full of junk apps.

  • We are doing some renovations soon.. I just can't see prices going back down to pre-covid prices and neither can builders... the only thing that has improved is the lead time on materials. We are renovating to improve our house for us, it is old and tired and it would make things a lot more comfortable. I can't see a problem with it.

  • It is simple math, the penalty for not hosting vs the cost of hosting. It seems thing was going to have a negative cost much more than the penalty so they decided to withdraw. People who are angry are thinking with their heart, not their head (or will just whinge about anything)

  • I have helped heaps of people switch.. it is pretty simple. Sign up a webmail service, start moving services to new email address, mass email friends/family of new email address. Monitor old one till it is done or ISP email expires. Most important things can be sorted pretty quick. I feel sorry for the people who have build businesses on ISP email addresses though :0/

  • Koala with a some Clark Rubber carbon / latex topper. Has been perfect for us so far. I find the Koala a little firm on its own, but hasn’t lost its shape at all.. so the topper just makes it a little softer

  • My phone is still 100%, received on launch day.. my old iPhone 13 Pro (launch day previous year) that my daughter uses is 96%

I think the problem is poor wireless chargers not aligned perfectly to the coil. I have only ever used a MagSafe and never experienced the issue with battery.

I have just checked other phones in the house that either use MagSafe or cable and they are all good

  • why does lobbying always sound like blatant corruption? Lobbyist asks politician for help on something, lobbyist isn't getting it for free, they are either calling a favor (corrupt), paying for it (corrupt) and appealing to the politicians good will (lol)

  • When deciding on specifications, a vendor has to consider the requirements for the whole of its support lifecycle, not just year one. So Apple needs to be building a premium phone that will be functional for everything they have in the pipeline

  • Slipstream (1989).. check it out if you haven't seen it. Mark Hamill, Bill Paxton and produced by Gary Kurtz (Star Wars, ESB, American Graffiti, The Dark Crystal).. This was released 5 years after Return of the Jedi with that star power and didn't even get a US cinema release.

  • After spending a week working through the intricacies of running it in a vm, lxc, I settled on a privileged LXC container

It was so much simpler to get the quick sync hardware transcoding working, and it just seems so much faster in LXC. Also, the host GPU can be shared across multiple LXC containers

I just run a weekly backup for the LXC using Proxmox backup to an NFS share on the NAS
