  • There have been broad discussions in the upper echelons of my workplace, and they generally talk about AI replacing all of the entry level type jobs that give young people a start, things like phone support/service desk becoming AI chat bots. I don’t know what the future holds for people born in the last couple of years, but it isn’t looking good unless you want to do a trade.

  • After reading the article, and as someone who is just a member of the general public with a family (not a mental health sufferer), I don't know how I feel. I can understand the sufferers point in the article where he was beaten for a bipolar episode... but do I feel police should take on that role of protector from people acting in a way where it doesn't feel safe for me or my family, I hope sufferers can understand that too. I wouldn't have a clue what the solution is as I also wouldn't want to be that person they send in to 'just have a talk' as that wouldn't seem very safe in every situation either.

How do they tell who is having a mental health episode vs some psycho just out to take a life?

  • In my mind, the only way to fix the housing crisis is to implement policy which will effectively collapse the housing market, and that would be a suicidal move by any party so they just wont do it. Every day is some story of the Government's attempt to fix it, the latest was building 3,000 appartments next to the Metro at Macquarie Park. In what world does anyone think these things will be affordable when they are 30 mins from the city and a walk to the metro?

The only ways I can see to fix it is to grandfather capital gains tax discounts on investments and kill AirBNB

Also, while I like the notion of affordable housing, I don't think it is possible to build. Nothing is affordable these days. Affordable labour and materials don't really exist..

  • This is a nightmare scenario where a group of techs/engineers suddenly realise their actions can kill people.

I wonder how many people tried to dial emergency services or a support service and couldn’t get through..

  • I don’t ’hate’ them, and I am comfortable that the information I share is ok-ish.

I have adblockers, I use Firefox, I don’t look at ads (ever) I don’t have anything stored with them that I care about too much.. I am at peace with it, not happy, not upset

  • Same story as everyone else.. I used to have Netflix, Spotify, Disney+ and Tidal, now I only have Tidal. I have always owned a NAS and that is my main source of media consumption now. I just cant justify the $100 or so a month it costs to keep all these services and I struggle to find anything I am interested in. The worst thing about streaming services is the disruption to the movie industry.. movies these days either feel like a couple of $200m+ productions or straight to streaming.. there is no in between, and the straight to streaming stuff feels half cooked

  • My Ultra 1 was having this after I did the ios17 upgrade on my phone and the subsequent watchOS update.

I lived with it for a couple of weeks then did a full reset with only a single face installed. I am back to my normal battery life now

  • It says they are single use so they will stay on the lunar surface.. I guess they just need to find a way to repurpose them into something useful.. it would be cool if they could somehow expand into a moon station

  • I run a couple of instances of Plex in Proxmox containers. I use containers so I can share the GPU/Network across more than one CT. I think if you use a VM it can only pass through the GPU to one

  • They are overpriced based on a system you can build yourself, but the target audience for a NAS is someone who doesn’t want to spend days googling guides when a hard drive craps the bed or the os glitches. When I think of how much my NAS was, what I have stored on it and how much I use it, it is probably the best value for money thing I own.
