  • At the core of the debate is a genuinely thorny technical and legal question: how to verify someoneโ€™s age over the internet without exposing them to cyber theft or government surveillance.

Age verification providers are adamant that this is possible.

I agree that it is possible if you can guarantee absolutely zero corruption in the system. Which you cannot.

  • Enemies

    Jump
  • I haven't before, but I might now. There's plenty of dairies around here...

  • And most of them truly don't play them, just parroting what someone told them or even straight up making shit up about what the game contains.

  • When a thing called "shit just works" fails to work:

(Been fine for me to view; but I'm not entirely sure if that's because I'm not on the instance)

  • Because they don't know enough physics to send a message via quantum entanglement. That's actually what they were texting them about.

  • I kinda had the feeling it was the payroll for the art department when I really started to take note of how long credits for a video game are compared to a movie, as well as seeing hundreds, even thousands of people working on the art assets, and maybe only 5 people working on the programming. Not to mention some of these positions have 6-figure incomes.

It also explains why games can look super good but are sometimes mechanically/technically flawed to hell. All the focus is on making it look pretty, but then held together with used gum and scotch tape.

  • I get that they can harm the environment (especially when there is an overpopulation); that's not what I'm asking. The question was how is it bad for the cat?

  • I wonder what kind of healthcare the humans have in that world, actually. For all I know, they take better care of the pokemon than they do the people.

  • Sure, but what makes vodka vodka and not, say, brandy or moonshine if not the starting material you're fermenting?

  • There isn't anything on the horizon I am interested in right now. At least, nothing with a concrete release date. The only thing I can even think of right now is getting Adventure Mode in the Steam version of Dwarf Fortress. And that could come anywhere between tomorrow and a decade from now. It's been "coming soon" since the game came out on Steam. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  • How is it terrible for the cat? Their natural habitat is outside!

  • If you can still download the legacy version of Dwarf Fortress from Bay12Games website, Adventure Mode is the best rouge like I've ever played. It's not yet in the Steam version, though.

For a more action-oriented rogue like, I find Returnal to be fun as hell. Roguelike bullet hell 3rd person shooter, with a pretty intriguing story line if you manage to actually get all of it (finding story bits is as random as everything else).

Edit: Er... They're on PC, though. DF could run on pretty much anything; returnal might need a decent gaming rig (or a PlayStation).

  • The truth was like a green crack through my brain. Weapon statistics floating in the air, glimpsed out of the corner of my eye. The repetitious act of shooting, time slowing down to show off my moves. The paranoid feeling of someone controlling my every step. I was in a computer game. Funny as Hell, it was the most horrible thing I could think of.

  • If he dies, his song will be proven to be lies as he gives us up, let's us down and leaves us. He has to live forever or become a liar.

  • You're upset because people aren't completely fucking insane with their hot takes on every topic under the sun? ๐Ÿคจ

Have you tried having a conversation with people locked up in a mental asylum?

  • Why do you assume I am now a better person? In my defense, I have BPD. It takes nothing to shift my mood, and my emotions are cranked to 11 at all times. The best way to control my rage is to get the fuck away from what's pissing me off.

  • Most of the anti-American sentiment I've seen on SM over the last 2 or 3 years has been from Americans. It sucks here unless you're rich, racist, and/or incredibly stupid.
