  • Age isn't inherently a bad thing in politics. We're a representative democracy, and older adults deserve representation reflected as equally as any other eligible voter demographic imo (which could include felons and other disenfranchised populations where possible, but that's a whole other convo).

It's disproportionately skewed due to lack of term limits, it's often safer for parties to run an incumbent, and there's benefits to having someone with the experience stay in, so idk. I don't have a ton of solutions by any means, just want to push back on the ageism and add some nuance here. Bernie's still out there doing a his job representing the demographic well

  • Yep. We approved it because it's that or continue with a total ban with no exceptions for rape or incest, to be clear. We had some of the strictest laws in the country on abortion, juxtaposed by some of the most lax on gun control.

Oh and we also just banned ranked choice voting, so. This state is weird.

  • If a poly person is with a monogamous person and wants to sleep with a new partner, end the relationship with the monogamous person. The monogamous person can stay out of the relationship if they know the other person is poly, too.

  • If the follow up to you saying you're done is them demanding to keep going, that is coercive and fucked up. I wouldn't suggest lying in response unless you never plan to see them again, though, or if you feel safe and plan to address it later. It's just as fucked up to keep up with the lie afterwards as it is to be coercive, imo. Both play coercive, indirect ways of refusing respect, and the tit-for-tat dynamic risks setting up a breeding grounds of resentment for at least the person maintaining a lie. It also denies the coercive person the opportunity for growth.

  • Lmfao I had to start using the covers for litter boxes since one of mine does this. I feel bad, like I know it's not great for them to feel confined but...I am not letting that continue

  • It would only show the info relating to the account though, right? I don't share my Instagram because I can't figure out how to disconnect it from my Facebook (plus it doesn't embed on discord - very rude), but I don't use my real info for any of my other accounts.

  • I mean that's exactly what trans means, so they're just being redundant and perpetuating this weird fear mongering. Honestly some of them are just stupid, others seem to know a lot of constituents are stupid and appeal to it while knowingly preventing funding for education so future voters AREN'T stupid

  • We still have a ways to go with psychologist research, to be fair. My dad served two tours between 2003-2006 and only more recently came to understand PTSD isn't something you just "get over."

Same for sexism. It's not easy for service members to get over that engrained idea of protecting women at the cost of the team. There's a lot of promising research in resilience studies preparing military members prior to entering combat that I think could apply. As long as researchers and artists involved in VR type training are careful to include particular elements like more femme voices and such, it can be overcome before it's an issue in active combat

And to be clear, I'm not familiar with the research veterans have cited to me that it is an issue to begin with. I've only really looked at PTSD and the use of VR for exposure therapy and CBT. I'm inclined to believe it would be an issue for at least some men. I'd like to look at Israel as a case study example when I get some time since they've had compulsory service for men and women for a while now
