It doesn't matter how fancy the place is. Oysters are filter feeders and clean up the water ways of anything and everything. All it takes is a boat to flush its toilet somewhere near the oyster field and the whole lot will be contaminated.
It's a natural thing that occurs when your pay is based on stocks that respond heavily to quarterly results. Stay in for 2 - 3 years, drive stock prices up, get out, and leave the mess for the next leadership team.

As greedy as you think they might have been, without them, a lot of smaller bands would have just washed up. People work really hard to make music, shouldn't they get paid for it?
Didn't they also live through all of what you just mentioned? What makes their experience of those events different than yours? It is all perspective. How do you know what it was like to be alive during the civil right's movement, the Cuban missile crisis, the oil crisis, the assassinations of JFK and MLK Jr, the Vietnam war and the draft, the real estate crash in the 1980's, etc.
It turns out that people are rubbish at understanding others perspective and life experiences. There is no hand book on how to be an adult and how to live. Giving advice is difficult. Give your parents a break and realize that they are people too.
If you will never live in the US, you should renounce your citizenship. This will be permanent and irrevocable, so consider it wisely. This eliminates any issue with not filing taxes while working overseas.
