The fields where you can’t paste a password or any other types of data like credit card info absolutely kill me. It’s doing the exact opposite of adding any level of security and it’s just infuriating.
My favorite recently is my company has TOTP 2FA but you can’t paste the 6 digits. You have to type in one digit at a time, each being its own box. Paste fails in every browser I’ve tried. It’s just a shitty user interface.
I also used to run into this when flying for work I would have paid for wifi on a plane flight but my mobile device isn't able to get their text or push notification because I only paid for my laptop to have wifi. Used to drive me crazy and then I just stopped working while on flights because of dumb policies.
I use apt cacher ng. Most of my use case though is for caching of packages related to Docker image builds as I build up to 200+ images daily. In reality, I have aggressive image caching so I don’t actually build anywhere close to that many each day but the stats are impressive. 8.1 GB of data fetched from the internet but 108 GB served from the acng instance as it shows in the stats page of recent history.
Battery life tends to be the one things I really look forward to with a new phone these days. Instead of paying to replace my battery, I just sell my phone and get a new one.

I was until about a year ago or so. I had all of my home server’s file systems on top of mdadm but somewhere around 3-4 years ago I started migrating my different storage groups to zfs and then I finally got rid of my root mdadm mirror last year, moving that to zfs too.
I have two internet connections - one is fiber and the other is cable. My cable is the backup connection and is a lower tier offering with a 1.2 TB/month cap while my primary fiber is 1gig symmetrical with no data cap. I use pfsense to handle failover in case of an outage.
It’s pretty amazing how many people still remember and reuse passwords for everything. I think it is still as simple as people haven’t heard of password managers or they’re just too overwhelmed with adding all of their passwords to a password manager and then changing them to something unique.
Two different, incompatible chat services exist - Discord and Matrix. This allows users of either service to post to a channel that has been connected on each side and messages are basically cross posted between the two, allowing users on each service to almost chat like they are all on the same channel despite being on two different chat services.
Seems that it comes down to Apple adding a USB 3 controller in the A16 A17 chip where the A15 A16 did not have one embedded. They’d otherwise need to have an external controller to add support in the non-pro phones which is easier said than done when dealing with a phone. Annoying but understandable at least.
The iPhone 14 Pro had the A16 chip. The 15 non-pro now has the A16 chip so they’re “passing down” the previous chip to the no -pro line, at least this year. Previously, they reused the A15 from the iPhone 13 lineup which was also re-used for the non-pro 14 iPhones.
The thing these brilliant people making these decisions don’t realize is that they are gonna lose the people they don’t want to lose. People who can find other jobs because they’re valuable people can easily find jobs; people who can’t find jobs will do more to stay.
I also use acme.sh. It has worked great for me and was dead simple to use. Super flexible on what it can do from just renewing the certs to web server integration. Love the simple to use hooks available too.
Yeah, that’s rough. Luckily I mostly just used those types of communities as interesting reads more than actively participating outside of searching for content from them.
There is still a certain excellence to the model of how interaction works for how I enjoy consuming online conversations. It reminds me of a better old school forum experience.
I do still use reddit when I find search results for things I want to know, especially where reddit was the biggest community for some topics but I usually end up there from search engines.
