  • Not all of them. Some tariffs are in place, others temporarily paused. It's a very intentional mess.

  • What blows my mind is that the obvious market manipulation will continue to work. The market plunged today, but it will be back up again as soon as Trump announces another tariff pause.

  • I'm more than ten years old, so I can remember all the way back to the Before Times. 2015. President Obama.

Try to imagine the response from Republicans if Obama had hired people this fucking stupid. Try to imagine the clusterfuck that would have rightly ensued if his advisors had used an insecure and easily hacked messaging app to illegally circumvent the Presidential Records Act.

Now try to picture those same Republicans applying the same standards to Trump. Doesn't work, does it? It's like trying to imagine a square circle.

  • Because it's not "both sides." There are three sides, here. You've got Republicans, who are universally awful. Then you've got corporatist Democrats, who are also universally awful, although marginally less so. Finally, you have actual Democrats like AOC, who aren't awful in the slightest.

The "both sides" people never differentiate between the second two groups. What we need is more of group #3 and less of groups #1 and #2, but pretending all we have is #1 and #2 is bullshit that doesn't help anyone.

  • For LLMs, yes.

Thank you. As useful as LLMs can be under certain circumstances, they are not the only type of AI.

  • Here's the thing: They're actually a natural fit for it, because if anyone ought to understand the use cases, strengths, weaknesses, and implications of a technology, it would be a university that's centered around research on technology.

So they looked carefully at this guy's paper, realized he was making outrageous and unsupportable claims about what AI could do, failed to reproduce his results, and concluded he was full of shit. That's what we really should be able to expect from MIT.

  • Imagine if a Biden lawyer has made that argument.

  • I love this for Xitter. Make it even worse, and fuck up the one piece of it that was sort of functional.

  • I use Opera on a Mac for all my Bing-based Edge-recommending needs.

  • RFK Jr. strikes again. I'll never understand why people like him can't grasp the idea that the difference between medicine and poison is often dosage.

The amount of fluoride in these tablets is nowhere near unsafe levels. It's not even close.

  • They would vote for him again anyway. We need to get used to this: The only thing he could do that would stop them from supporting him is literally murdering them, and with their dying breaths, they'd whisper, "I probably did something to deserve it. MAGA!..."

  • This isn't for AntiOutsideAktion. This is for anyone else who stumbles on this thread, so you can be absolutely clear on what happened.

    1. I responded to the question posed in the headline as follows: "Yes. They have been for years now. Our far-right are a bunch of fucking idiot assholes, and easily manipulated."
My comment was accurate. Despite years of concerted effort by Russia's defenders and proxies, their troll army is well-documented, and their targeting of right-wing idiots in the United States is equally well-documented. It happened. It's happening now.
    2. In response, AntiOutsideAktion said this: "Anyway now that I’ve explained how my domestic political opposition are easily manipulated, let me explain to you how everything bad that’s ever happened is the fault of the outside enemy."
That is a disingenuous and obvious strawman of what I said. I never claimed "everything bad that's ever happened is the fault of the outside enemy." The fact that our right-wing dipshits are so easily led astray is entirely on them.
    3. So I called him out on that.

The end. That's what happened. And that's why I'm not even remotely interested in his takes on anything else, and he's going on my otherwise-mostly-empty block list after I post this comment.

  • Hmmm. If 10 is average and 30 is world-class...

    • Strength: 13. I'm a big and fairly muscular guy who goes to the gym regularly.
    • Dexterity: 10 (+1). I'm not clumsy, but I'm no gymnast, either. Strictly average, all things considered. I give myself one bonus point on account of being ambidextrous.
    • Constitution : 12. Again, regular at the gym. Should probably do more cardio, though.
    • Intelligence: 15. I'm a software developer, I'm working on being bilingual, and I have a lot of varied interests. You'll also note that I can spell and use punctuation properly, which is sadly outside the norm. I'm not bragging, I know I'm well above average in intelligence.
    • Wisdom: 10. I'm not the stereotype of a book-smart-but-foolish person, but I'm also smart enough to know I'm not winning any hypothetical wisdom awards. I've made average amounts of boneheaded mistakes.
    • Charisma: 12 (+1). I'm a better-than-average public speaker, and I have it on good authority (my wife) that I'm reasonably handsome. I also get the (completely unfair) tallness modifier.

All in all, my D&D stats would be pretty decent. Nothing anywhere near the peak of human potential, but not bad.

  • Yes. They have been for years now. Our far-right are a bunch of fucking idiot assholes, and easily manipulated.

  • So, uhhh, just put of curiosity, any particular add-ons you'd suggest?

  • Jesus. We're gonna have a surgical residency dropout and anti-vaccine nut as our surgeon general.

    That's fucking insane.

  • If they're genuinely apologetic and recognize they made a terrible choice, then yes... Welcome back to reality.
