  • See, this is where you're wrong. By every measure, the Democratic party platform was objectively better for humans living on planet Earth. Its problems were in degree (not being nearly progressive enough), not in focus (such as screaming incoherently about trans people).

But people didn't know, because of the aforementioned misinformation and disinformation. Seriously, did you know that the party platform contains an entire section on protecting LGBTQI+ people and rights? Most progressive voters who sat this one out never read it. Here, see for yourself.

But because the Democratic party wasn't progressive enough (in some people's eyes), they sat out the election, and someone who is a thousand times worse in every respect is going to be president tomorrow.

I take that personally. I have a trans son and a gay daughter, and their lives will be so much worse, starting tomorrow. And to protect them, I'm actively trying to figure out how to leave this country, because a lot of people didn't care enough to protect my kids.

In 1930's Germany, the Jewish people (and Gypsies, and - again - gay and trans people, and so on) who survived when that country descended into fascism are the ones who got the fuck out first. That is the reality that this purity bullshit has created for people like my kids.

  • While that's true, choosing to vote for Trump, a third-party, or not at all is like saying, "I don't like this ham sandwich and I don't like my sandwich choices... so I'm going to eat this dog-turds-and-radioactive-glass-shards sandwich instead!"

    This country is fucked.

Edit: Rather than respond below to every comment, thought I'd clarify a few things here.

    1. I never said Democrats didn't fuck up. They certainly did.
    2. But - and this is important - we can't ignore the roles that racism, sexism, and above all misinformation played. To pretend there was none, and that vast swaths of the electorate didn't fall for it, would be disingenuous.

Democrats have moved to the right, and hurt themselves doing so. That is true. But they are still objectively superior to Republicans in every conceivable way. People who voted Republican voted for the Leopards Eating People's Faces party because they were angry about Democrats being imperfect, and their faces will be eaten.

  • No problem. I'm actually just sorry it happened.

  • I did indeed see "GET DIGITAL ACCESS" and hit the ban hammer immediately because it looked like spam. I will unban your account, and you are welcome to re-post the story (with the correct headline).

  • Headline in six months: Salesforce Hires Software Engineers After Realizing Middle Managers Don't Know How To Turn AI-Generated Code Into Actual Applications

Being a software engineer is a hell of a lot more than just the actual act of writing code.

  • Considering how well Ukraine treats its prisoners of war (as opposed to how well Russia and North Korea treat their soldiers), this may very well be the best thing that's ever happened to them.

  • Nope, it's the 20th.

  • It's the day a bloated orange fascist takes over the federal government of the United States.

  • January 20th, 2025.

  • Je voyagerai en France pour le faire aussi. Ça deviendra une destination touristique pour pisse !

  • I don't know how much comfort this will bring, but rest assured that hate-filled bigoted assholes generally don't live long. The constant stress of seething about everyone and everything around them makes guys like Le Pen the exception, not the rule.

The only reason this particular human sphincter lived a long time is because he had access to high-quality medical care.

  • Made me cry:

Gotta be Schindler's List. That movie was so goddamn sad, and I just started sobbing when I saw that splash of red color. You know when. Ooof. A masterpiece I will never watch again.

For a more recent example, I watched the second season of Arcane. Lots of sad scenes, but anyone else who has watched it knows the most heart-wrenching one:

    Left me disturbed:

Another Spielberg movie, Saving Private Ryan. Didn't cry when the Nazi soldier sloooooowly stabbed Mellish to death. But afterwards, I had nightmares about it for months. Cripes, what a brutal death scene.

  • Researching and planning a trip abroad in preparation for moving out of this country.

  • The world needs to stop using "deported" to describe these kids.

They were kidnapped. They were not "deported," because you can't be deported to a country you weren't previously a citizen of. This poor kid was stolen from his home, sent to a shithole, denied the ability to go home, and eventually decided life wasn't worth it.

Kidnapped. Use the right word, everyone.

  • New ad campaign:

"You survived COVID, even though the liberals tried to get you to vaccinate. You haven't vaccinated to this day because you have an immune system. You're conservative and strong. So when the liberals try again with bird flu, monkey pox, or whatever animal disease they come up with next, just tell them, 'No thank you.'" Make sure the video playing along with the words shows strong manly men - white, of course - with rugged good looks, wearing outdoorsy clothes, doing manly stuff. Guaranteed to convince a bunch of insecure conservative douchebags not to vaccinate. Again.

  • I'd rather have mandatory cognitive tests. Start them at fifty, since some people develop early-onset dementia. Fail a cognitive test, you're out, regardless of age.

  • This is just false. Joe Manchin wasn't the one who "wrote it." It is a pared-down (yes, partially by Joe Manchin) version of the Build Back Better plan, which President Biden proposed. Lots of Democratic legislators in the House and Senate and their staffers actually wrote the text of the final bill.

Saying Joe Manchin wrote it is not just wrong, it's egregiously misleading.

  • Are we going to pretend he gives a shit? He doesn't. He got what he wanted, and he can't be elected again (barring him fucking our systems so severely that he manages to force a third term on us). He's going to wreck the justice system to avoid any consequences for his actions after his term, and he could very well kick the bucket while he's in office anyway (dude's got KFC gravy for blood).

He doesn't care. He no longer has to. He can play his country-destroying games with impunity. He has no reason to give a single fuck what the American people want.

  • I wonder how the folks who voted for Trump or abstained from voting because they support Palestine feel about Israel being entirely free to engage in expansionism now?

  • McConnell, you motherfucker, you could have stopped this. You could have had your caucus in the Senate vote to convict, and ended the nightmare. You don't get to complain about the "very dangerous world" you helped create.
