  • Ok, it didn't sit right with me (still doesnt) so I looked up how the heck this is even allowed. Turns out Uber in their infinite wisdom is allowing teens 13-17 to make uber profiles in select cities. Personally I am far from ok with that BUT, I did find out some relevant information. Turns out you can only create an uber account as a teen if the account is linked to a guardians uber account that gives you permission, and gives notifications and live trip tracking to that guardian. So this absolute clown is either lying or when his kid went missing he reached for his gun before and without reaching for his phone and actually checking his notifications to see if his parent tracking stuff knew anything about where his kid was, or maybe a friends parents knew where she was or even the police. Nope, just got the gun even though he would have had to have known his kid had an uber account and that he had access to its tracking.

  • Y'know, everything else aside it is profoundly inappropriate for rideshare contractors to be driving unaccompanied minors. They are not background checked at all the same way taxi drivers need to be. I'm kind of shocked uber allows it and that drivers feel comfortable with it. Obviously first and foremost this is an incredibly irresponsible (and dangerous to society) parent but holy shit, a rideshare corporation go ahead is not adequate for a kid to get into a strangers car.

  • It has been a long time since people only lived at home because they didn't have real jobs or are in school. Many are also likely to need cars so they can get to work (because most places in America you need a car), there is a decent chance they are paying for some amount of healthcare out of pocket as well. Rent is unaffordable as hell.

  • I don't disagree but it's frustrating to somebody who cares and is knowledgeable about a topic to have people militantly try to outlaw and poorly regulate it while not having critical knowledge and understanding on the topic. There's a reason gun people tend to be very irritated by a lot of the anti-gun crowd.

  • That license would require chatgpt to provide attribution every time it used training data of anyone there and also would require every output using that training data to be placed under the same license. This would actually legally prevent anything chatgpt created even in part using this training data from being closed source. Assuming they obviously aren't planning on doing that this is massively shitting on the concept of licensing.

  • Yeah and black bears are skittish enough and small enough that you have a good chance of scaring it away or hurting it. A brown bear is just too big for you to have any use in fighting back, but luckily brown bears are territorial and most of the time they just want to scare you away or get rid of a rival, so play dead and they'll usually leave you unscathed enough to live.
