  • Even if the US presidency goes to a progressive Democrat in 4 years, it will take decades of concerted effort to undo the damage that Trump and his merry band of assholes has done to the US and the world.

The normal that we all knew has been stomped into dust, and won't be back in most of our lifetimes.

The longer the Trump/MAGA shitshow goes on unchecked, the more time and effort it will take to repair the damage.

  • It would have been possible, for example, to say Big Brother is ungood. But this statement, which to an orthodox ear merely conveyed a self-evident absurdity, could not have been sustained by reasoned argument, because the necessary words were not available.

  • We don’t grow a whole lot of fresh green veggies in the winter.

Right now I have lettuce, fresh herbs and fresh tomatoes that were grown in greenhouses in Alberta.

We don’t grow any citrus fruits whatsoever

A lot of other countries that aren't attacking us do, though.

    .

Nobody said this would be easy, but that entire list is stuff that we can get elsewhere, can make ourselves, or that we can survive without until we can find a friendlier source.

  • I appreciate the sentiment, but please gather together with your friends and neighbors and fix your country's shit.

No, I don't have a step-by-step plan to give you, it's your country, you should know better than me what's effective where you live.

  • Sounds like Mexico is also going the targeted retaliation route.

I expect coordinating the reaponses for maximum impact was a big part of the extended discussion Trudeau was having with the Mexican president that delayed the start of his announcement.

  • Would you vote for government to take away more of your money, pay a higher sales tax, higher government fees, higher income tax for all people, to pay for helping needy people

I have done in the past and I would do again.

  • Which means Canadians will lose their jobs, they will be out of work, and some companies in Canada will not hire because there's not enough sales to hire anybody new.

We know. But that's Trump's fault for starting this stupid fight.

Or are you suggesting that we just "shut up and take it" like a good little rape victim?

If so, fuck that. We're kicking him in the balls.

  • I almost never watch Canadian news, but I did this once. And I was really pleasantly surprised

Far too many people fail to watch the news about our own country.

Not staying informed about what's happening in our own country is part of the problems we have with divisiveness.

  • Only a quarter of the country actively voted for this.

And among those, I'd bet only a small portion actually understood what they were voting for. There are a lot of unthinking voters who only vote R because that's what their entire family has always done.

That said, I still put a lot of blame on the apathetic idiots who couldn't be bothered to get off their ass to vote at all.

    .

The worse thi gs get and the more people start directly feeling the impacts, the more support you will se for taking action

  • Or they just blithely assume that it will all go back to normal in four years

Even if Trump doesn't survive until then, and even if the best possible Democrat is able to become the next president, it will take decades to clean up Trump's mess, and at least the same amount of time for the rest of the world to start trusting the USA and Americans again.

We hoped you'd have learned how much of a mistake Trump was the first time, and then you just go and make the same mistake again a few years later.

This is a mess of your own making, and you have to fix your own shit.

Until then, the rest of us will be out here using your example as a warning, and getting on with our lives.
