  • It's just going to fuck up our standing in the world of geopolitics

    It already has.

Im still of the belief that our safety nets are gonna catch this one.

I hope you're correct, but we can't rely on that.

Individuals have to also take action, and keep pressure on the people who are supposed to be preventing these abuses.

  • But maybe he has better help, so we can't even rely on his incompetence

What he has this time is no "adults in the room" to act as guardrails. He's surrounded himself with sycophants and yes-men, so there's nobody to stop him from flailing randomly and breaking shit.

  • I suspect much of the "radio silence" is a combination of "don't tip our hand" and "not reacting prematurely to Trump's bluster, but rather waiting to see what he actually does".

Plus, there is a lot that is happening.

Trudeau is in Europe discussing the situation with various leaders there.

The premiers were in Washington talking to anyone and everyone they could.

And there have been a number of contingency plans made, we just have to see which (if any) of Trump's "concepts of a plan" actually happens.

Meanwhile it looks like there is starting to be some infighting among Republicans. No need to interrupt them while that's happening.

  • They are things like having different requirements of a "first aid kit" in each province,

There are quite a number of different regulations for commercial vehicle equipment and operation across the provinces.

BC has some rules that were created to address thwir mountainous roads. Ontario has some of the most extensive rules on what the vehicle must be equipped with. The rules surrounding tire chains and studded tires differ across the country.

Of course, ir should be possible to harmonize them all, but that would put added burden on operators in some regions where certain requirements don't make practical sense.

(Why would a truck in PEI need the same safety equipment as one operating in the BC mountains?)

  • If we sell something to the US, and it gets a tariff applied after the sale but before delivery, it's the receiver that has to pay the tariff,

And those potential buyers don't want to risk that uncertainty.

Would you agree to buy something without knowing if it might randomly cost you 25% more than the agreed price?

  • one company makes EV busses and RVs, but all the rest of the Canadian vehicle companies make either EV conversion kits, high end sports cars(EV and ICE) or armoured vehicles.

There's also a startup in BC that's making EV commercial trucks.
