  • Yes, that is great on an individual level.

But the best thing to do overall for our environment and climate is supporting protest movements, especially those employing nonviolent civil disobedience. Per pound/dollar/euro, they reduce emissions the most. But if you can, attend events in person.

This should not neglect that we need both individual and system change and they depend on each other. You should reduce your meat consumption and advocate for a world where everyone reduces meat consumption (and even become vegan or at least vegetarian).

  • That's why we need to change the system. By being flooded with crises, we get separated and lose sight of the bigger picture. Many of the crises ate actually caused by the same things. Capitalism, greed, "conservatives", corruption, the ultra rich. Whatever you want to call them.

  • The people feeding their families have done so without plastic for thousands of years. Even without plastic, they still have all other technological advancements available to them. Yes, it will get harder and it is unfair. But it's entirely possible. And we can also fight that injustice. Tax the rich.

  • The corporations and the nations allowing them to do so are not acting lawful. They are violating the Paris agreement. In many (almost all) countries, the protection of the environment is also a constitutional right. That's violated. The European court of Human rights has also ruled that climate action is a human right.

International law, constitution, and human rights are some of the most important laws that we, as a civilization and society, have.

  • It's a very interesting topic. But it's really hard to study in humans. Due to the abundance of microplastics everywhere, it's almost impossible to conduct controlled trials. It's rather unethical to inject humans with plastic and cutting them open to look inside is also frowned upon (rightfully so). We can compare with historical measurements, but then, of course, we can't isolate the effects of microplastics.

  • Yes, there are some underlying issues which seem rooted in conservatisvism or rather its expression in modern politics.

But activism is not only about informing, it's about pressuring the ruling class. And the more people support it, the better it works.

The ruling class was against civil rights, women's rights, freeing slaves, Mahatma Ghandi, and so on. They were not convinced by facts, reason, or science. The people who are convinced by these need to show politicians that they are willing to stand up and protest if they don't listen.

  • Yes, it's hard. But I'd rather endure oppression than giving up.

However, there's a lot you can do to support without repression. You can provide social media support, help with designing banners and stuff, take and edit pictures and videos, provide food, or also legal support, just as some examples.

Also, the more people join protests, the harder it is for the state to oppress them.
