  • People still invest in Tesla even though Musk is at helm.

Personally, I didn’t engage because I felt to “nothing” them during their big event was more worthwhile and also contributed to lessening my overall Reddit visits. Ultimately, however, numbers are what speak to investors.

  • As someone who uses both, I’m always fascinated by the things that Android “takes” from Apple. It’s usually the worst of iOS and then made even more unbearable.

Like apps just minimizing. Yeah, that’s fine for iOS where the apps themselves aren’t technically running while they’re not in focus. You can have 2 iOS apps open or 60 and you still have the same effect on battery life. There’s no need for this on Android.

The nags for updates are one of the things I hate most about iOS. I get why it’s done; increased version adoption and greater cohesion across the larger scale of the OS. It’s still nonsense, though.

  • What I’ve always found interesting about these images is how close the initial blasts look to virus/phages, particularly their heads.

You can argue that a nuclear blast is the end of the world, but a really intense virus could end us all just as easily, albeit taking a bit longer.

  • Don’t forget: they also deleted all messages pre-2023 with no notice.

Spez has said that he admires Musk’s playbook with Twitter and aimed to model after it. Considering Twitter’s outlook, I would say I admired the stones on a man trying to launching the IPO like this, but if he had any real stones, he wouldn’t have pressed these viciously unpopular moves that will reduce engagement and destroy the site over time.

  • I’ve downloaded the app and I’m going to start entering stuff to really play around with it in a bit, but I’ll be honest: the IAP feels a bit steep to me.

I’ll note, I’m pretty cheap and I’m not likely to spend on an app unless I feel I’m getting a wealth of usage. For example, I threw, I think, around $10 at the old Apollo app for Reddit because it was my most-used app by some 10 hours each week (RIP). I had a daily task app that I paid $5 for and another app with like translations and concordances as the IAP for $10. I also removed ads for $1 in a manga-reader for iPad. I give these examples because, for me at least, apps that are getting daily use “deserve” to get my money.

While this one sounds neat and is honestly something I’ve been searching for, $8 USD hits me a little hard. I doubt I’m going to be in this app daily and it’s got a sole, albeit useful, function. The same could be achieved in Excel or Sheets, sans notifications about the newer games.

So, just my opinion, but something like this needs to be priced within “splurge” range for apps. Like honestly, $1.99-2.99. It’s low enough to hit that “sure why not” and not so high that you make a user question why they would spend.

  • So…Gold once gave us 2 Xbox One and 1 360 game a month to keep for as long as we had Gold, regardless if they were in the “library” or not.

In the last 12 months, the service has “evolved” to just a tiny part of the Game Pass library and pretty much nothing else.

Glad I’ve got a PS5 instead of a Series X because this “service” has completely died.

  • 44 GB over two hours, though? If it were the last couple GBs in the last maybe 10 ten minutes, but unless the OP is running a PC from 2002, the data should have already moved from RAM to disk in that time.

But yeah, the filesystem journal will explain what happened there.

  • Since major projects like Firefox keep getting mentioned, I’ll throw a shout out to Ant Renamer.

It’s simple, it’s FOSS, and it just works. I often - ahem - acquire a number of files from various sources that are labeled like “Mission.Impossible.7.Complete.zHD.2022.xReloadedx”, and an application like Ant Renamer can batch rename files into whatever you need.

For example, if I need to backup or copy a set of game saves in a folder that all need to have the same prefix like N007 from N002, I would have to manually change 10K files from one prefix to the other. Ant Renamer can do everything in a batch that runs quicker than the blink of an eye.

So, Ant Renamer for the win!
