I nearly drowned when I was 8 years old.

I was at camp and didn’t quite know how to tread water. There was a large pond that they let us play in during our free time and I went under the water for a bit, but when I came up for air, the water was too deep and I couldn’t stand up over the water.

I immediately panicked and just kept jumping to try and stay above the water. It was burning my eyes and right into my lungs. Every time I jumped up over the water, I couldn’t get enough breath to focus and I went back down with more water than air.

I have some very clear memories of those moments. I was very close to the dock and I could see the older lifeguards kind of playing around on the dock as it was getting harder and harder to jump. The clearest memory of all was me literally thinking “Oh my God. I’m 8 years old and I’m going to die.”

I started to get tired and I remember this tall blonde girl reaching out to me and saying “Are you okay?” and just pulling me to the shore.

From that point, things got a little fuzzy. I remember a lot of people standing around me and I remember vomiting up pond water. My mother, after finding out what happened, threatened to sue the camp, and I couldn’t hardly look at the water without three of counselors around me after that.

I think about that moment before the girl saved me a lot. That “Oh my God. I’m going to die” moment. It’s very sobering, and even though it’s been more than 30 years, it’s still been difficult to shake off.

Double the salary, with a company car, 4-day week, and office kittens.

Honestly, I might just come in for extra cash and the kittens…

Howdy!! It was more of a “that’s the last straw” sort of thing, but it was just ludicrous to me that I was being forced back into an office to sit on the same dang Zoom calls I’d been on every day for the previous two years.

When I inquired what was gained doing the exact same work still separated from everyone because we were across multiple states and countries, I was told “we work BeTtEr ToGeThEr!”

The mandate was announced in January, it went into effect in February, and I was gone in March.

I had an S8 for my secondary device and had to move to an S10e for something similar.

My main device is an iPhone 12, which won’t get replaced until Apple come up with a USB-C phone. I used to upgrade every 2 years because there were significant changes to each phone. iPhone 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S, 8, and 12; that said, if we hadn’t decided to try to get my grandmother on a better device, I’d probably still be rocking the iPhone 8. I kind of miss having a dedicated Home button…

This is completely untrue.

The Mom and Pop owners have less resources to handle if you suddenly break your lease and leave due to crumbing conditions so it’s in their best interest to keep their properties updated.

Corporations often will ignore your complaints, and then just absorb the costs for a couple months until they can move in someone else into the same broken property. Corporations do not care when it comes to their properties, while individual owners do care because there are actual people behind them.

Also, regardless if “renting is the right choice for some people”, the housing shortage is due to corporations buying up single family homes with the express purpose of renting them, which pushes potential owners out of the market entirely.

It’s at 58% reporting. I’m not relaxing until it’s at 80%+.

I voted three weeks ago, but this whole time I’ve been wondering if I can stay in this state if this managed to pass. My hope is that the No vote comes to 60%; the irony would be delicious.

He’s basically saying that all his campaign money is going towards these cases. For anyone else, this would be an admission of misusing campaign funds, but anyway…

And they all equally suck. It’s really amazing how they can all be so terrible at the same time.

This sounds difficult to actually implement.

For example, I play a mobile game where if you have an iOS account that is set as an “under 13” account anywhere in the settings, the in-game chat is permanently turned off for you. But, there’s nothing that stops an actual 10-year-old from having an account that doesn’t have the age settings, thusly allowing them to access whatever gets said in the game chat.

The proposals for app devs described in the article also don’t make a lot of sense and sound like huge hurdles to overcome.

Yeah, but PS1 era Chamber of Secrets was tight. I’d play the mess out of that with upgrades graphics.
