  • Am I going to run into transcoding issues with 7th gen i5 on several streams?

I have a 4th gen i5 and it can handle about three transcodes concurrently. You should be fine on that, especially if your users direct stream.

all but one of them have modern Roku or Apple TV devices.

These devices should be capable of direct streaming any video format. You'll have to tell your users to change their streaming settings to always play original quality on remote stream. Plex defaults to 720p for remote streams.

should I use the 258GB M.2 already in the box for the config and database, or use the 2TB 970 EVO SSD?

The 256 GB should be enough. My Plex folder uses about 90 GB right now with all the posters and stuff. It's been running on a SATA 256 GB SSD for almost 7 years now. My library is also pretty large, pushing 8 TB total now.

There's no harm in keeping it in.

    • RAM is mostly independent from streaming capabilities. The recipient needs RAM to store the buffer but the host machine would do fine with 16 GB.
    • SSD for config and database, no exceptions. HDD is great for the media itself.
    • Other suggestions: a machine with an 8th gen or later CPU, non-F variant. Those CPUs have an integrated GPU that can transcode several streams simultaneously without the slightest struggle. To utilize this, you'll need to buy a Plex Pass and enable hardware encoding.
  • Gathering players isn't the issue with clans. My only experience with it was a clan was intentionally trying to block me on a road because they wanted to "claim" the area ahead and build their own FOB, so nobody else was allowed that way. It was just childish behavior.

  • You can probably buy them in most shoe shops or places you can buy boots. I use SuperFeet brand, which I think you can buy online. Pair it with some nice socks. For my running shoes, I use some fruit of the loom polyester ankle socks. For my boots I wear some Darn Tough socks when I know it's gonna be a shitty day, else I just wear some regular cheap socks.

  • I was really disappointed in this game. It took me a long time to fully understand the gameplay. By the time I figured it all out and decided I didn't like it, I couldn't refund it because I was at 4 hours.

It's just a frustrating game to play. Lots of clans that bully you, even if you're in the same faction. You could play for hours and have everything undone in a few minutes by a large attacking force.

  • Yes. The sole of my boots provides the cushion I need, while the insoles make it firm and slick inside my boots and shoes. Rubbery insoles grip my sock and the sock rubs on my foot, causing the blisters. The slick insoles allow the socks to stay on my feet in the same spot so no more friction.

  • If your internet isn't great then it won't be much better for you vs torrents.

I get 1 gbps and my usenet host can fully saturate my download speeds.

My usenet host retention is currently over 5000 days. Most downloads that fail are because of DMCA takedowns. In those cases, 99% of the time, Sonarr or Radarr will find another one still under the same provider. It's only when all of those fail that it'll turn to torrents.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to use torrents in the past three years.

  • I'm in the US but this should still apply to the UK

Is usenet and debrid safe to use without a VPN in the UK?

Yes, as long as your provider offers SSL encryption. If you're using SSL encryption, the ISP can see what servers you're connected to but not what data is being transferred and that should be enough protection. If there isn't an option for SSL, you might want to use a VPN.

From what I understand it's cheaper to use a VPN than have debrid + usenet + private indexers but I am not sure.

It is cheaper, but availability and speed are what you're paying for if you sign up for a usenet provider.

I've been using both usenet and torrents for the past few years and never gotten a complaint. Usenet is my main source of everything. Only my torrent client itself is behind a VPN. All the arrs are unsecured and SABnzbd uses the SSL port for my usenet provider.

  • It might be worthwhile to check out some boots marketed toward military personnel. There's LOTS of opinions out there about military boots because tons of us wear them.

I know Danner makes very nice boots. I wore the Reckoning cold weather version and loved them so much. They're lined with goretex to keep the wet and the cold out as best as possible.

I wore them nonstop for about 2 years. Every regular day of work, weeks or months in the field, even climbing Mount Fuji. Those things lasted a long time until I replaced them with...

the Danner Jungles, which are very much the opposite of cold weather boots. They're made for hot and wet climates. I love these even more but that's probably because they're designed specifically for this type of area.
