Yeah, but can you trust the US going forward? And it's not like closer relations with the UK or EU would be any help if push came to shove, the logistics alone would make that impossible. Australia needs to make sure it can defend itself with locally sourced technology and materials.

There's outright socialist parties ont the ballot as well, and you could argue some of the single issue parties (legalise cannabis party, animal justice party, ...) are left wing too even if they don't have an explicit economic programme. There's options, and you can preference accordingly so your vote doesn't trickle to the right wing parties.
