  • There is a good amount on Lemmy that I have seen.

If you are active enough, you will start to see user names you recognize across major communities, as well as posts.

  • Edit: improved wording and grammer a bit

They did not even mention the deaths in Kursk.

Don't forget to thank NATO for decades of planning to achieve this feat of more forever wars where the working class dies for an increase in quarterly reports on their ROI in exchange for profit and natural resources.

The vast majority of civilian casualties (90%) and damage to educational and healthcare facilities (86%) continued to occur in the Ukraine-controlled territory in July, according to the report.

Okhmatdyt, Ukraine's largest children's medical center, was hit during the Russian July 8 missile attack. Two people, including a doctor, were killed there while one hospital building was destroyed and four others damaged.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022, the U.N. estimates that at least 11,520 civilians have been killed and at least 23,640 injured.

  • Interesting thoughts, Satan.

Thanks for sharing your views on the matter!

  • Wow, great writeup and explanation of your experience within your family.

To keep it short, some of my friends and family are also on the Trump wagon because they think he will fix the economy and lower taxes for the working class.

They are young, and some have started their own families already. They are hard workers, only thinking about providing for their family while trying to enjoy life.

Thank you for taking the time to voice your thoughts!

  • Well, he supported Bernie Sanders and even had him on his podcast.

I don't think he will go duopoly though, but who knows.

    Many working-class are leaning Trump.

  • Harmless pranks, thanks for sharing with us!

  • Edit3: improved wording a bit, and added info below; forgot to add this edit

    Legalize and regulate.

I share this view with other issues our society faces as well.

    Edit: forgot why.

    Why:

Sex work as well as drugs will never be outlawed or enforced fully; looking at drugs, it is used as an excuse to jail the working class for slave labor as well as other things when you follow the money.^[[1] The Wire - Daniels Follows the Money | 01:34 | https://youtu.be/9PaBt441FBQ]

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.^[[2] https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/amendment-13/]

  • Sharing owner-class media (norm in lemmy) and independent journalists should be the norm; it is good to know all sides and not self-censor ourselves to only people or information we agree with.

We must not be afraid to exercise our brains so as to improve our critical thinking capabilities.

I hope I and others do not want our thinking muscles to fade away.

  • You should still be able to see the moderators of the community who banned you.

You have to manually click on each moderator's name to then send them a DM explaining your issues, if I understood @jordanlund@lemmy.world correctly.

  • Ah, it seems like a race to the bottom.

But I can't disagree with you there.

  • If I understand correctly, people continue to reply to your comments, resulting in you receiving notifications from the community you were banned from.

You would like to delete these comments so as to not get notifications from people replying to something you can't engage with or interact with anymore.

  • Oh, I see the problem.

    It's Windows 10.

  • Third building wasn't insured, that is why it is not mentioned.

  • As for the next notch in the Merc with the Mouth’s belt, $1B is expected to hit this weekend. When that benchmark is crossed, Deadpool & Wolverine will become only the second U.S. R-rated movie ever to get there — after 2019’s Joker — and will overtake Oppenheimer as the second-biggest R-rated title of all time, adding to its list of records. D&W will reach $1B faster than Joker, though that film did not have a China release. It will also be Disney’s second billion-dollar grosser this year after Inside Out 2, as well as only the second movie of 2024 to the post.

Yesterday saw the Marvel/Disney juggernaut move up the domestic ranks, passing both Iron Man 3 ($409M) and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($411M) to enter the Top 10 MCU films ever. D&W currently sits at No. 9 behind Captain Marvel, which it will pass today.

Overseas, the top 10 markets through Tuesday are as follows: China ($48.3M), UK ($46.4M), Mexico ($34.3M), Australia ($25.9M), Germany ($20.2M), France ($19.9M), Brazil ($18.7M), India ($16.4M), Spain ($15.7M) and Italy ($14M).

  • Edit: improved wording, a bit

The Labour Party is "left-wing," as in that they are similar to the Democrats being "left," but in reality they are republican-lites (conservative-lite).

  • TIL^[[1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attraction_to_disability]

Attraction to disability is a sexualised interest in the appearance, sensation and experience of disability.[1] It may extend from normal human sexuality into a type of sexual fetishism. Sexologically, the pathological end of the attraction tends to be classified as a paraphilia.[2][3] Other researchers have approached it as a form of identity disorder.[4][5][6] The most common interests are towards amputations, prosthesis, and crutches.[1] As a sexual fetish, attraction to disability is known as devotism, and those with the fetish are known as devotees.[1]

Sapiosexuality is a type of sexuality that involves being more attracted by the contents of a person's mind than by the appearance of their body. To feel sexually attracted to another person, a sapiosexual person must first feel intellectually stimulated. Intelligence is often the first quality a person notices in a potential partner.

The word sapiosexual originated from the Latin root word 'sapien,' which means wise, and 'sexualis,' which means sexual. Sapiosexual is still a fairly new word, as Merriam-Webster's first known use of the word was in 2004. According to research, between 1% and 8% of people aged 18 to 35 may be sapiosexuals.

Anyone can identify as sapiosexual, including both heterosexuals and LGBTQIA+ people. This means that people who identify as sapiosexual may be straight, gay, asexual, or another identity.^[[2] https://www.verywellmind.com/what-does-it-mean-to-be-sapiosexual-5190425]

  • Sounds like an awesome addition to people on Lemmy!

Thanks for sharing your views on the matter!

  • They forgot quotes; by "left" and "progressive" they mean republican-lites.

The left’s romance with Walz is deeply entwined with hostility to his chief rival for a spot on the ticket: Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. Harris’s decision on Shapiro, who has a history of hostility with the party’s pro-Palestinian faction, had become seen as a bellwether for whether she’d be meaningfully different from Biden on Gaza. Walz looked like the most progressive available anti-Shapiro, and so emerged as the left’s preferred alternative.

The Minnesota Miracle reforms, enacted in a single legislative session, read like a progressive wishlist. They include paid family leave, free school meals, marijuana legalization, a 100 percent clean energy mandate by 2040, and a slew of protections for organized labor.

But I use the word “progressive” and not its cousin “leftist” deliberately. The Minnesota Miracle policies are all squarely within the Democratic mainstream: none betray an ideological commitment to the party’s socialist or otherwise radical wings.

But Walz’s position on Israel-Palestine is hardly left-wing. The Atlantic’s Yair Rosenberg has put together a list of Walz’s positions and actions that basically reflect the traditional pro-Israel consensus. Walz’s position on how to end the current Gaza war is virtually identical to Shapiro’s. The most important difference is less Middle East policy than domestic: Shapiro has been far harsher on pro-Palestine campus protests than Walz has.

The strongest Trump attack on Harris, at least to date, is that she’s too far to the left. Scored by one (dubious) metric as the most liberal member of the Senate in 2019, she has drawn Republican flak for previous positions ranging from Medicare-for-all to banning fracking to decriminalizing border crossing.

Moreover, his celebrity status on the left gives Harris crucial running room to keep up the strategic centrism. By handing her left flank a victory, she’s theoretically built major credibility that she can spend to defray a left-wing revolt over some of her more centrist stances.

  • They are used to the short-term goals of stonks.

The more people there are, the more popular it is with the working class. Instead of being a niche community, you can meet non-tech people that know about Lemmy.

Lemmy is good as is; slow growth is better, IMO.

  • I visited a local Costco and they have started scanning memeberships, I forgot what the person told me but I think they have been doing it for a couple of weeks, not sure though.

I wonder how they will get around the alcohol only non-members.

While this legal side-step is great news for state residents hoping to save money on alcohol, it's not as simple as merely walking into the store and heading to the liquor section. Since greeters often check for membership cards at the door, someone hoping to take advantage of this loophole will likely need to tell the greeter they are there to purchase alcohol. Once inside, they will typically be given a temporary number by the membership desk, but will not be allowed to grab extra grocery items or hit the food court for a snack during their shopping spree; aside from the pharmacy and liquor, everything else at Costco is out of bounds.

In states where this alcohol loophole exists, additional limitations may apply. According to My Bartender, Costco stores in Delaware, Indiana, Texas, and New York are only allowed to sell wine and beer; other states permit the sale of hard liquor, while the state of Vermont insists that club stores sell their spirits to members only. Consumer Reports notes that these same policies apply to other club stores including BJ's Wholesale Club — but not to Sam's Club stores, which already have a nationwide policy of allowing non-members to purchase alcohol.^[[1] https://www.tastingtable.com/1355636/non-members-buy-liquor-costco-states/]

Costco Wholesale is installing membership scanners at the entrances of all of its locations to discourage non-members from shopping at the stores.

Guests must also be accompanied by a valid member in order to enter a store, Costco added.

The discount retailer began testing the technology earlier this year, with Chief Financial Officer Richard Galanti relaying that more people had been sharing memberships since the pandemic in 2020.

Costco earlier in the year cracked down on who uses its food court to ensure that only members can capitalize on its famous $1.50 wiener-and-soda deal.

Costco said last month it was hiking its basic membership fee for the first time since 2017, increasing the annual charge to $65 from $60. The roughly 8% cost increase takes effect on September 1, the warehouse club announced. The cost of a premium membership is rising to $130 from $120. Costco also said the maximum annual 2% reward for its executive membership will rise to $1,250 from $1,000.
