  • Interesting.

  • Quick search:

Crying is an important safety valve, largely because keeping difficult feelings inside — what psychologists call repressive coping — can be bad for our health. Studies have linked repressive coping with a less resilient immune system, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension, as well as with mental health conditions, including stress, anxiety, and depression. Crying has also been shown to increase attachment behavior, encouraging closeness, empathy, and support from friends and family.

Scientists divide the liquid product of crying into three distinct categories: reflex tears, continuous tears, and emotional tears. The first two categories perform the important function of removing debris such as smoke and dust from our eyes, and lubricating our eyes to help protect them from infection. Their content is 98% water.

It’s the third category, emotional tears (which flush stress hormones and other toxins out of our system), that potentially offers the most health benefits. Researchers have established that crying releases oxytocin and endogenous opioids, also known as endorphins. These feel-good chemicals help ease both physical and emotional pain. Popular culture, for its part, has always known the value of a good cry as a way to feel better — and maybe even to experience physical pleasure. The millions of people who watched classic tearjerker films such as West Side Story or Titanic (among others) will likely attest to that fact.

There are times when crying can be a sign of a problem, especially if it happens very frequently and/or for no apparent reason, or when crying starts to affect daily activities or becomes uncontrollable. Conversely, people suffering from certain kinds of clinical depression may actually not be able to cry, even when they feel like it. In any of these situations, it would be best to see a medical professional who can help diagnose the problem and suggest appropriate treatment.

  • edit: improved format a bit

Owner-class media bias/fact check does not see it as "Low Quality Source" though, so they are more false reports to continue censorship.

Lemmy World does the same, if you look at 'Trending communities' section (as desktop view), they are new communities.

  • Great writeup, thanks for taking the time to call out mods!

IMO: Blue MAGA and MAGA share a lot in common, they do like to defend Israel and their status quo politicians.

  • I thought I said a good amount, tangents and all.

Getting away from owner-class media is unaviodable to most, since Lemmy likes MSM sources and their Media Bias sites.

    Back to X:

I also try to get information from independent journalists and the working class so as to share diverse ideas and push against my own bias, so I will continue to travel the high seas (popular social media).

  • No Doubt is a great band.

    As an American

I add that due to encounters with non-Americans.

We are strangers on the internet; feel free to think what you will, I will not try to force it on you, hahaha.

  • rebranding oligarchy

How? The billionaires and corporations own the most important resources while having great influence over our elections and politicians.

We are only a republic or a "democracy" in our dreams, but in reality, we are also already a fascist country with our police state.

Not to mention the Patriot Act and the many more policies that follow.

The USA PATRIOT Act was a landmark Act of the United States Congress, signed into law by President George W. Bush.

  • I disagree with your view on this matter.

I am against censorship, including self-censorship.

Our western media is owner-class media, which includes all popular social media as well.

IMO: You will never win over the working class if you keep running away from everything.

I am more for being active and sharing diverse ideas everywhere you can reach an audience, not just the ones that think like you want them to or the ones that agree with your way of thinking.

We must continue to try and learn, as well as discuss, with all of the working class, not just our tribal groups.

Echo chambers are not healthy for our society.

  • As an American, I know about our regime-change wars and about our military leaks, including some of our real civilian causalities in our forever wars.

Not to mention our civil rights activists keep dying, as well as other information about the three letter agencies.

I try to avoid races to the bottom, especially when comparing citizen deaths in the US and Russia.

It will not make any nation more popular.

  • That would be a sideways move.

Changing from one oligarchy to another oligarchy.

Well, if you become a whistleblower or if you are a journalist that the west wants to arrest, or get rid of, that might be your best bet.

Edward Snowden is alive and kicking.

  • Ah, but that seems like a race to the bottom.

    As an American:

I prefer to compare the best of society, not the worst, so that we may work towards improving our society instead of being happy with the status quo.

We are funding these wars and the mass murder of the working class with the push for more proxy wars and our constant interference in elections in foreign countries.

History has shown that our actions result in civil wars, famine, and mass migration in these regions.

We must stay hopeful while doing our best to build a better society for the future.

  • It said one Israeli had been arrested after police and army units intervened in Thursday's attack.

The Palestinian health ministry reported one person had been killed and another wounded by settlers' gunfire.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the White House both condemned the attack.

More than 600 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

Israel accuses Iran of sending money into the West Bank to incite further violence against Israelis.

It also gave approval earlier this year for 3,400 new settlement homes to be built, even though they are illegal under international law.

    Attackers emboldened by government extremists

    • Dominic Waghorn - Diplomatic editor | International affairs editor

The IDF says it's investigating but in reality these attackers can act with impunity, very few are ever brought to justice.

They claim all of the land occupied by Israel as Jewish by divine right. They want the war in Gaza to go on and the Strip to be reoccupied.

  • IMO: tribal thinking.

It comes down to "they do not think like I want them to or they won't agree with me, so I will downvote posts."

Controversial topics are even more downvoting just to downvote.

The self-built echo chambers are already constructed; self-censorship and anything outside of their views and sources are dismissed, labeled, and smeared so as to not think about the information being shared.

It happens everywhere; the status quo is welcomed, while anything outside of it will seem controversial or extreme.

  • "It has been 24 days and Kamala Harris continues to duck and hide from the media -- no interviews and no press conferences since she announced," said communications director Steven Cheung in a statement.

He added that he "look[s] forward to the debates" as a way to "set the record straight."

"Trump did the only thing he knows how to do -- he went out and lied, made up stories, mixed up dates, attacked the media, and, overall, reminded Americans that he is a deeply unwell man," the Harris campaign said in a statement reacting to Trump's press conference.

"We will commit to directly engage with the voters that are actually gonna decide this election and that is gonna be complete with rallies, with sit-down interviews, with press conferences, with all the digital assets we have at our disposal," Michael Tyler, communications director for the Harris-Walz campaign, said on CNN Wednesday when pressed multiple times to commit to press conferences and media interviews.

Trump just visited the solidly conservative state of Montana to stump for GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy last week, but is spending this week in two battleground states: North Carolina to deliver an economic speech and is also planning on holding a rally in Pennsylvania over the weekend.

This process should work on any Intel Mac pre 2018 (without T2 security chip & secure boot). Thanks for the suggestion to install Linux on this old MacBook Air! It has brought new life to this old computer and I am really enjoying getting to know Linux, as I have never really used Linux in this capacity. Let me know if you would like a more in depth video of how I set up my Linux environment!
