We all wear different faces and exhibit different behaviours in different places, so I'm not surprised with this. This forum's moderators protect this user, so the best you can really do is either take the bullet for the team and try to engage them with cold, hard logic, or just downvote and move on. This guy's trying to get Trump elected. That's all we need to say.
Eeeyep...and there's nothing we can do except be 'civil' to them.
I don't disagree that Palestine is a big mess and we're not so much pro-Palestine as anti-Project 2025. I don't want to see Palestinians killed. That's why I'm voting Democrat, because historical precedence shows that one of two candidates will take office in November: The Republican (who has promised to accelerate Israel's murder and subjugation of the Palestinians) or the Democrat. Yes, I'd like an option besides the Republican and the Democrat, but until we dispose of the Electoral College AND get something like RCV, the only path to less genocide in Israel is Democrats, even if they are more wishy-washy on opposing Israel's murder and subjugation of Palestine. But all it takes is a few tens of thousands of people to be hoodwinked into voting third party in bitterly divided swing states and we all get Project 2025.
They'll fight at the State level too. Look at Alaska trying to get RCV repealed.
Yeah, that's exactly what this is about. The American Republican Party has been on a sexual purity crusade since I was a kid (they made REAL hay out of Clinton getting his knob waxed in the '90s), and they're all about making sex dirty and controllable by the Government.
I guess a downvote troll likes Dark Money in elections! XD
Oh, that username hits me right in the fails. Let me guess. The rest of it is 'missed the shot, awakened the whole pod, and my squad went down in a hail of alien gunfire'? 🤣
Anyway, yeah, I pointed France out in another post. Third Parties end up hurting the majority party closest to them on the scale, and cause the country to fall to the opposite Major Party. In the best of circumstances, it results in things you hold dear to be torn down and things you detest to be built up, and when the opposite party has a heavy xenophobic fascist core? Well, people far closer to home to you than any Palestinian ever could be will suffer, as will you yourself. It's fine if you can make yourself into a martyr alone (fly over to Gaza and help them directly), but when you make other people into victims because your chosen faction wasn't put ahead of everyone else? That is serious psychopath behaviour right there.
Secretly pray? These guys are morons. Why not join the over 200 and growing voices loudly denouncing Trump? That'll do more!
So...I'm going to try to give the GOP a bit of a benefit of the doubt here. There is a legitimate position in the GOP -- the notion that government isn't the solution for all our problems, and that the best spent dollar is the dollar spent willingly, by the citizen, on the things the citizen wants to spend it on. We shouldn't dismiss their political position because it appeals to so many people, and we're making them choose between fiscal 'responsibility' in their eyes and America's standing on Democratic principles.
We have to reach out to these voters and convince them to stay home, vote third party, or 'join the dark side' temporarily and give us their votes, and we're certainly not going to do that by attacking their political position. I'd prefer "I get that you'd rather keep your tax dollars, and while I disagree with you on that, and you disagree that your tax dollars are your dues to society, right now we have bigger fish to fry, such as the autocratic takeover of your party by fringe elements. Can we work together today so you can have a party to go back to tomorrow?"
Flies, honey, vinegar, all that.
I'm not going to totally disagree with you here, which is why I neither upvoted nor downvoted your comment. I think your chance for RCV or STAR increases if you take over a major party, because frankly, you're going to need to counter the old, dead weight that will fight tooth and nail to tear down your RCV framework. As much as I like Governor Polis in Colorado, he's still working with the people fighting to shut down RCV by making it so we have to jump through various hoops before RCV can be implemented State Wide.
We also have to be careful at the Federal level. RCV can work nicely for House and Senate, but we have a Constitutional Problem at POTUS that will take serious coordination at the State and Federal level to patch out. I'd hate for our current House to pick our POTUS because Harris got 269 votes, Stein got 25, and Trump got the rest. That's mandated by the constitution to go to the House, where Trump will be selected. We gotta fix that before we try to push RCV.
Maybe it's just because I've got a project manager's mind and see all the dependencies that I'm not calling immediately for RCV, though I am a fan of RCV, for sure, and will be voting for it in November.
Yeah. I'm kinda of two minds on this idea. On one hand, I agree with the notion that 'the cure for speech you don't like is more speech', so outright banning BS like the X-Verse would be harmful in my eyes, but the algorithms blocking stuff you don't agree with while shoving whatever toxic BS you eat up for engagement is a huge part of why our country is as fucked as it is! It's also good that these people are talking out in public rather than hiding in covens of hatemongers all clad in full-coverage pointy-hoods. Gives us more understanding of what we're up against.
How do we rein in the Social Media companies without shutting down (more like driving underground) these hateful views? Maybe outlaw AI filtering what we see, requiring Social Media platforms to show ALL posts and comments in chronological order, with Ads being outside of the Timeline, and the only posts being blocked being those the user has explicitly blocked (by post or by user)? 🤔
I find that they get outshouted roughly on a 2 to 1 ratio if engagement from the rest of Lemmy is good about posting/interacting. That tells me I'm doing a better job of connecting to people and pushing the ideas I want pushed. It's a small effort, but I'm just one person, but if we end up with Harris this November and Trump and his shitheads are sent packing, all's good, as an old German textbook I had was titled ("Alles Gute" but same deference).
Thanks for replying!
Yep. Dark Money is bad no matter what it funds. I'll call Dems out on that BS too.
I edited that to say 'you're making idiotic choices'. Did that not take? And would that be acceptable? If not, then how can I express that sentiment?
We shouldn't be forced to fight with one hand tied behind our back here, Jordan. There ARE bad-faith debaters here, pushing misinformation and disinformation for the sole purpose of ratfucking us out of our vote. What passes your smell test for civility when calling these groups out? Are we supposed to just pretend like there are no bots or paid actors? Or is there a way that will pass your muster for calling out those bad actors without violating Rule 3?
And is there any way to get your decisions reviewed? It sure feels like you leave up an awful lot of incivil posts by the 'Genocide Joe' people, while targeting us who call them out for their nonsense? Can we get your moderation decisions reviewed for fairness?
PS: I asked you to PM me so we didn't have this conversation in public. Having a public grievance on moderation decisions was not my choice. If you'd rather take this private, I'm still game for that.
First, to get this out of the way: Russia isn't doing anything special here. They're not creating the divisions. They aren't responsible for those divisions existing, even. They're merely exploiting them, like any other hack. Our 'psycho-security' for lack of a better term is as flawed as our cyber security, with way too many vulnerabilities left in because it's easier that way. Why patch the flaw when the ROI isn't there and it makes it easier for the actual users of the system to manipulate us (critical thinking? That causes you to question the constant advertising and that might make you buy fewer stuff!). Blaming Russia for all our problems is a copout and doesn't actually address our problem. It just lets us point the finger at somebody else.
That said? We can certainly use a layered strategy -- dare I say Defence in Depth -- to deal with our problems, and going after Russia is a valid response. If we can block them funding Alt-Right parties and memes/ideas, that's less bullshit to bombard people with. It's not the total answer, of course, but every dollar taken out of circulation from Russia going to Jill Stein, Junior, and of course Trump and his flying monkeys, is one fewer dollar funding an ad campaign or paying for dishonest posters who say we should vote Third Party because Dems aren't tough enough on Israel. Again, we'll still get a few of the True Believers and self-funded kooks (qooqs?) posting that bullshit but their reach will be limited. This is good for all of us.
This is an older article, but it's relevant to what's going on right now. My analysis follows in this comment:
- Third Parties don't work in the USA. Quite simply, it goes back to my whole '100 kid SGA election' example. Even if Bookish Girl was 100% legit and was really running to keep Nerd Boy from winning because he's actually a bad guy, he'd be a spoiler to her if she was the one with 48 votes behind her name and bookish nerd boy had 3 voting for him. But the example of being picked by Cheerleader to siphon away 3 votes from Nerd Boy so Cheerleader could win is exactly how Jill Stein and the Green Party are working. It was exactly how (RFK) Junior was running, until it became clear he was going to attract more votes from Trump than Harris, and what is he doing? Getting out of the race so he doesn't get Harrs elected!
- Third parties have the problem of not forming a broad consensus. Americans are stuck in their ways, and like their parties. Even the liberals are conservative in the notion of 'going with what just works.' Forming a broad consensus is necessary to win in the model of government we have, which is why we've had two major parties since right after our founding.
- There is a real faction of 'ratfuckers' who are here to split our vote and disrupt our election. Their goal is the conversion of the USA into a Fascist state, and they will use every tool in the box to fuck us out of our votes and fuck us into the Fascist state they want, and Third Parties are one of those tools.
If you want real change to the USA, you've got to do what Trumpets did -- take over the other major party in America, build a coalition by growing beyond your single issue, and slowly but surely turn the party into the vehicle for your ideals. If you can't convince more than a fringe party that your ideas are good and worth running on, you won't win in America, or, frankly, anywhere else.
Please PM me about this. I wish to understand what specifically you found objectionable, and who I may appeal the removal to.
Yeah, this is exactly what I say to all these 'Imma vote Third Party because Genocide JoeKamala is evil' people. I have no problem with fixing the system so that it doesn't mean we have to pick the lesser of two evils. But 'burning the house down with us in it' is exactly what Third Parties will accomplish in the current system, with the current voters. Donald Trump/Project 2025 must not win. Period.
So, because we don't do exactly what you want, you will put Blacks, Hispanics, Gays, Transgenders, Muslims, Jews, Pagans, Asians, and a whole host of other people here in the USA under a Republican Fascist Theocracy, which not only will harm those people, but also legitimately harm the people you say you care about more far more than they are being harmed now, and you wonder why you get so many negative votes and comments.
I categorically renounce and denounce your claim that Democrats are genocidal. This bullshit is all on Netanyahu and Hamas, not on innocent Israelis or Palestinians or the Democrats who aren't even in control of a damn thing in Israel. Anyone who listens to you over me is a damn fool. You vote whoever the fuck you want, but I'm still going to call you out as a fake supporter of Palestine as you scream how you can't vote for "Genocidal Democrats" because you're gonna get everyone you say you support and a whole bunch more actually killed with your vote. And with that, I'm done with you.
It never occurred to OP that you might be referring to the Libertarian in OP's article that's dropping out of the race in CD8 to endorse the Republican to avoid spoiling it to the Democrat. I find that shit funny....
