I wonder if this is a cyclic issue.

People start waiting to watch shows due to cancellations, Netflix sees viewership is down and cancels show early, more people start waiting for new shows.

That article's from 2012, before Elon Musk popularity took off, and yet you can already get a foreshadowing sense of Musk off the article:
