  • "Let's test if anyone remembers: write down when, where and how we met each other, along with your mother's maiden name and the make/model of the first car you ever owned :-)"

  • I love how this is a universal experience.

  • Ah I shouldn't have skimmed this while on a work call. I saw:

"Approaching women is a violation of their personal space and could make them feel very uncomfortable, especially if they feel like they don't have an easy way out."

and thought that OP was saying they were uncomfortable talking to women period.

  • I've found that meal delivery kits are perfect for this situation, though they typically require a commitment of cooking at least 3 days a week. I like how they let you pick recipes ahead of time and then take care of the ingredients. I suck at planning, so having them take care of the planning so I can focus on the cooking has been awesome for me.

  • I'm with your parents on this one. It's not hard to talk to someone without harassing them. Obviously you have to be mindful of the context of the situation.

    • You're at a party and attempt to strike up a friendly conversation with someone? Totally fine
    • You see an attractive stranger walking on the street and you stop them to ask them out? Not ok

Obviously there are loads of gray areas in between, but you can't just start with the premise that talking to a woman is harassment.

  • Fuck all the cops who used to use my driveway to try and catch people speeding

Wtf that's wild. I couldn't imagine a cop setting up a speed trap in my driveway.

  • I booked tickets for opening day to see it after work. I was browsing /all before the show and /r/4chan had tagged all their posts "Kylo Ren kills Han Solo, his father".

    Those fuckers.

  • Oh damn, I had wiped this from my memory. But yeah, I used to have a Hornets hat in the 90s despite not being a basketball fan.

  • As of Thursday, the company’s self-driving tech has completed over 1,200 miles without a human in the truck.

That's not an impressive number. That's like 2 days' worth of driving.

  • Yeah the controls on the early N64 games weren't as intuitive as controls now. It wasn't really until Halo that 3d games felt good to control.

  • That's what's mind blowing to me. The difference between games used to be staggering. The original Mario Bros compared to Mario 3 was huge. And jumping up to Mario 64 in less than a decade was even bigger still.

Obviously games have continued to improve since then, but we'll never have such rapid massive leaps again.

  • Worth pointing out that quote is from 2022, before Elon spent a quarter billion dollars to get Trump elected. The new quote referenced in the article is actually tame as fuck and hardly worth writing about:

“If you look at some of these internet people, I know so many of them. Elon is so terrific, but I know now all of them, you know, they all hated me in my first term, and now they’re kissing my ass. You know... it’s true. All of them. It’s true.”

  • Yeah it seems pretty clear that someone was like "His marijuana leaf stands for M, so let's label that. Then we'll say this is a smiley, so label that S. Etc etc"

Then Trump saw it and (just like the COVID hospital cleaning protocols to use bleach and UV light) assumed he was the smartest person in the room - and just ran with it. Problem is he's too dumb and egotistical to admit he made a mistake.

  • I just want to point out that Colorado Springs is the polar opposite of what people think of when they think of Colorado.

Colorado Springs is a military-focused city being the home of the US Airforce Academy. It's famous for its mega-churches and hosts the headquarters of the extreme right-wing group "Focus on the Family". Their mayor recently said that people could report anyone they suspected of being an illegal immigrant and the city would investigate it.

  • People always talk about wanting to grow Lemmy, but honestly I like it a lot more the way it is. You can comment on a post that's been on All for 6 hours and still get plenty of thoughtful responses. On reddit, there was so much noise - especially on major threads - that commenting was like pissing into the wind.

  • Lol nope, it was just an unlabeled camcorder tape. There's a lesson to be learned here, which is be careful with unlabeled tapes. Hope you don't find anything similar on your mom's tapes!

  • Trump has since begun to soften some of the measures, granting exemptions for smartphones, semiconductors and electronics and claiming the US and China were in direct contact “every day”.

On Tuesday, the president said tariffs would come down “substantially” and a deal would be done “pretty quickly”.

But the Chinese foreign ministry on said any reports that China and the US were nearing a deal were “fake news”.

“There have been no consultations or negotiations between China and the United States regarding tariffs, let alone reaching an agreement,” said ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun.

This is classic Trump. Lie about how easy something will be and how great he's making things, all while delivering horse shit and counting on your supporters to be too dumb to listen to what's actually going on.
