  • Lol he's so panicked he's had to order Trump to send a tweet to try to convince right wingers to buy EVs now.

  • France outdoing the US in Tesla protests is last week's news. The US is catching up. From the article:

Last week, Tesla charging stations in Boston were set ablaze... Gunshots shattered windows and damaged cars at a Tesla showroom in Oregon...And Colorado authorities arrested a woman accused of tossing Molotov cocktails at Tesla cars parked at a dealership and allegedly spray-painting an expletive at the entrance.

  • Definitely a lot further to go, but down 50% since December is still pretty crazy.

  • Did you take an actual Trump speech and replace the original topic with ball kicking? Because that was spot on.

  • Damn power hungry admins always keeping the sweet sweet bot ladies for themselves.

  • rule

    Jump
  • Same, but only if I could also stop aging while Serena continues to. I think I might have a chance with 30 years of practice playing against a 73 year old Serena, assuming I get lucky and she breaks a hip.

  • How many story points is it to get to 2nd base?

  • My brother is an Air Traffic Controller and we were talking about this earlier. New ATCs have months of training where they get paid terribly and have to live in Oklahoma City. Nowadays they don't even get to choose exactly where they'll work afterwards. There are some classes that graduate and then have to pick between something like working in San Juan or Oakland. And then their pay is also shit for a year or two until they fully qualify.

Could you imagine going to MIT, then saying "yeah I'll take a job that pays $14 an hour training to live in Oklahoma. Then I'll let you roll the dice and send me to live in Southern California and try to live off $36,000 a year. Or you know... I can just go take a job wherever the fuck I want as an MIT grad and get paid 6 figures right out the gate."

  • The tussle ended with Trump intervening to tell Duffy to hire “geniuses” from MIT as air traffic controllers.

This is the most WTF line in this article.

  • Barring personal disaster, they will never be poor.

I'm trying to think what personal disaster could possibly happen to render Elon poor. I feel like a new administration could come in, declare him a traitor, cease all his assets, and he still wouldn't be poor. Once you've got that kind of money, I'm sure you have millions squirreled away here and there.

  • I love Brandon Sanderson, but his world building and complex magic systems aren't for most people. I've tried to get my wife to read his stuff for years and she just has never gotten into it.

The reason Harry Potter was so commercially successful is because the vast majority of the public doesn't want to learn about allomantic properties of 16 different metals and how they have internal/external, physical/mental, enhancement/temporal and pushing/pulling effects.

They don't want to learn about adhesion, gravitation, division, abrasion, progression, illumination, transformation, cohesion, and tension surges - and how bonding a spren through oathes increases your ability to surgebind. Their eyes glaze over when talking about the cognitive and physical realms.

Most people just want to hear "yeah some people are magic and can wave wands, say some magic words and poof magic happens." That's why it's one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

But yeah, I've just learned to accept that while I love some Sanderson magic systems, it's not ever gonna be for everyone. And that's ok.

  • Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I've been in Lemmy for almost 2 years since the API migration, and I don't know if I've ever encountered a tankie, despite seeing hundreds of memes about them.

I'm guessing my instance just doesn't federate with the same weird shit y'all are seeing?

  • I loved how they laid that out all matter of fact like, as if I had any idea WTF they were talking about. Definitely a case of:

  • Not trying to victim blame here, but Canada's mistake was thinking these tariffs had anything to do with fentanyl or border security. These tariffs are literally just an ego thing for Trump. Outside of building a giant golden Trump monument and gifting it to the US like the Statue of Liberty, I don't think there's much they could have done.

Either that or take a note from Putin and find some kompromat.

  • I think a lot of the problems with the current administration wouldn't change if Trump was Luigied. Dismantling our federal institutions, consolidating power in the executive branch, stripping away human rights - all those things would continue.

However, I think that the support for Putin nearly exclusively comes from Trump himself.

  • It got him impeached the first time he did it. But that was back when we had separation of powers. Now, Republicans have shown they are unwilling to question their dear ruler.
