It got him impeached the first time he did it. But that was back when we had separation of powers. Now, Republicans have shown they are unwilling to question their dear ruler.
Trump is such a master negotiator. Betray our allies, threaten to leave the UN, stop all cyber security operations against Russian, lift sanctions against Russia that are working, block Ukraine from joining the UN, and say that any chance of ending the war has to result in Ukraine ceding stolen territory.
All before negotiations even start. What a mastermind.
This is her "lifelong" dream? Not even a recent fantasy? Like when she was in kindergarten writing about what she wanted to do when she grew up, this was first on the list?
I've been trying to think what the Trump / Vance plan was. Like you said, it was obvious that Vance was there to pick a fight. But I couldn't tell if they were legitimately trying to blow up diplomatic relations like they did, or if they thought they were going to get the upper hand in exploring Ukraine for their natural resources.
I guess technically there are people who are still 25 that were born in the 1900s. So not completely unreasonable.
But yeah, as someone born in the 1900s and not anywhere near my 20s, I just wanted to share what hopefully is a common experience:
Like many people, I got a new driver's license when I turned 21. Being 21, I was in the best shape of my life, looked nice and fit, still had hair, etc.
Fast forward 10 years when I need a license renewal, and I can just do it all online, no need for a new picture. Fast forward another few years when life has taken it's toll a bit - no longer in good shape, hair is a distant memory, etc. I went out to a restaurant and ordered a beer, and the waitress goes "this ID doesn't look like you at all."
Republican senators shit the bed after January 6th. That was their last realistic chance of putting a stop to the MAGA crazy train. They could've found Trump guilty at his 2nd impeachment trial without anyone blaming them for it.
Instead they gave Trump a pass and abandoned the idea of separation of powers. Since then, it's forced the Trump-packed Supreme Court to agree with them that the President is above the law and can't be checked by anyone.
Now it's too late. Congress can't hold him accountable. The courts can't. He can do whatever the fuck he wants.
Haven't you heard? Elon doesn't work for the government. Apparently there is no administrator for DOGE, so don't go trying to hold him accountable or anything.
Just goes to show how effective it is to repeat a lie so much that people start to accept it as fact. By continually calling DOGE a "cost-cutting" effort, they've completely framed the conversation how they want.
I downloaded Sync the first day he released it. It had a few bugs, but he was very active at the time and seemed to clean them up quickly. I made a post in his community about a problem with comment sorting and he resolved it the very next day!
So yeah, I glady paid for what I thought was a pretty good app (still is without the unread issue). Since then I've gone back to Voyager, which is ok but still has some quirks that make me miss Sync. Might give Thunder a shot.
It happens when your home instance upgrades to a newer version of Lemmy that changed how one of the variables worked to track read posts. I'm guessing lemme.ee hasn't upgraded yet? Sh.itjust.works upgraded something like 6 months ago and it's been unusable ever since. I suppose I could make an account on another instance, but that's a pain.
It was pretty common for him to disappear for a while and then pop up with a whole bunch of new features. I didn't mind that before and gladly paid the $1.50/month subscription to support his work and make Lemmy more accessible. But yeah, can't justify it now that the app shows all links as unread.
Op, is your account the alt of the Sync dev or something?
I wish that was the case. @ljdawson@lemmy.world - the Sync dev - has been MIA for over half a year now. Which sucks, because Sync currently has a breaking bug causing it to not show posts as read, making it mostly unusable. I had to cancel my subscription for it that I was happily paying for before to support his work.
