  • How did it backfire for YouTube? According to this source, YouTube has over 2 billion monthly users. Let's assume that a significant portion of this user base is around 10%, as a substantial loss in ad revenues would be necessary for this situation to backfire. That would amount to 200,000,000 users.

Do we have data confirming that ad-blockers gained approximately 200,000,000 new installations over the past month, or is there any other evidence to support this claim?

  • I think that people compare cats to dogs as both are common pets. Dogs are very expressive, while with cats you have to pay attention and spend some effort to learn their behavior and habits. Many people don't have time or interest for that.

  • All people are susceptible to manipulation by terrible people.

Fixed. Religions just put religious leaders in a position, where they have authority to push their ideas. Given that religious people are irrational by definition, it makes them easier to manipulate.

  • How does this support manifest? I'm asking, because there are no real signs. Russian army is struggling to find soldiers and Putin is afraid to start another wave of mass-mobilization.

If somebody echoes propaganda, it doesn't mean that they support anything. There are no actions confirming this support.

There are many more nuances. I suggest reading at least one book on yhe topic of political science and listening to some lectures before coming to conclusions on such a complex matters.

  • I hope you get banned for your hateful and bigoted comments. I also hate people who hate ranch on pizza, but I care about the underrepresented class of people who do. They are humans and deserve all the rights as you or I. I am appalled that this kind of blatant hatred still exists in 2023. You, sir (or ma’am, or whatever pronoun you prefer), are a loathsome person and I’m ashamed to be in the same species as you.

  • I like the idea of Piped, because I could use it with LibreTube and have same subscriptions on different devices. But since Piped doesn't work at all for me for the past week, I've switched to FreeTube. It works with no issues.

  • I don't see them blocking accounts. What would it achieve? Their goal is to monetize you. By taking you out of the equation, they can't monetize you anymore. You'll probably keep doing what you were doing anonymously or with a new account, so blocking you won't reduce costs either.

On the other hand, Google is collecting a lot of data. Maybe now they aren't using it very effectively, but sooner or later they might find a key to make YouTube Premium a viable option even for someone like you. By using YouTube and other Google services, you are providing key fragments.

  • What if the focus of Beehaw and/or Lemmy in general is not as a link aggregation platform but instead a community of topic discussion? People are rewarded for posting links to articles with upvotes which only gives incentive to continue posting the same not-read content that they think the respective subs will like (upvote).

I think that clickbait titles are effective because they trigger an emotional response. We have more or less same brains with same biases and heuristics as users on other platforms. So I don't think that this system can work, people will continue posting and upvoting such content. Fast and strict content moderation, however, could be effective.
