  • one is the old, better, unrestricted ui (old) normal reddit is the new ui, with intrusive ads, mobile app popups, age restrictions etc

  • im gonna have to cope by using my sideloaded modded apps!!!

  • wow! i have to admit i often leech from public trackers since my vpn doesn't support port forwarding anymore (mullvad) so i didn't really know of the setup to get a good ratio, only the downloading part. I'll have to look into it. by the way, do you use a vpn with port forwarding or just use trusted private trackers?

  • how did you set it up (like, what's the process a file would do to get downloaded)? this seems a bit more complex then the normal *arr stack setup

  • green needle

  • it's also particularly good for the nsa, reason why many people decide to block it (or at least minimize what it can do, since it can't be blocked anymore)

  • nice to see! i'm not following the scene as much anymore (last time i played around with it was with wizard mega 30b). definitely a big improvement, but as much as i hate to do this, i'll stick to chatgpt for the time being, it's just better on more niche questions and just does some things plain better (gpt4 can do maths (mostly) without hallucinating)

  • you can, but things as good as chatgpt can't be ran on local hardware yet. My main obstacle is language support other then english

  • not very commonly used unfortunately, i've had a philips screw strip recently in my laptop and it's been a nightmare

  • i hope you are joking because that's a very much shitty idea. there are amazing password managers like bitwarden (open source, multi platform, externally audited) that do what you said 1000 times better. the unencrypted passwords never leave your device, and it can autocomplete them into fields

  • the notification thing already exists on android 11+, settings>notifications>notification history

  • by run his own models he means locally running a text generation ai on his computer, because sending all that data to openai is a privacy nightmare, especially if you use it for sensitive stuff

  • PolyMC had some drama a while ago with a hostile takeover by a dev. The other original devs forked it and are now continuing the development at Prism launcher

edit: whoops! i made an error reading and didnt notice the two l's

  • not discrediting you, this is just my point of view. Media being removed is in not really a problem on streaming sites since there's usually many where you can watch the same thing, and as for point 4 streaming sites are basically the same.

I guess it's just different usage because I don't really like rewatching things and my family doesn't usually watch movies/TV series.

So in the end the only thing I don't like with how I do it is not being able to physically have the files

EDIT: I just realized I should have specified by streaming sites I mean the shady ones, in my country we use different words

  • Nice guide! However, I've always wondered if all of these even make sense. Like, can't you just stream from the internet? I understand having thing on your physical storage device is an extra degree of freedom but it's very rare for me watching something more then once. Also while you can technically run it off a Raspberry Pi, it's not really recommended and you would need a separate PC which just adds to the cost. Meanwhile, with a simple app like Cloudstream, you can just get whatever you want whenever you want. The only advantage I see of the *arr +media server approach is not needing to connect to a VPN.

EDIT: After reading the replys just realized I should have specified by streaming sites I mean the shady ones, in my country we use different words and I see how that can confuse some people

  • they wouldn't be able to give info to the feds if it was encrypted
