The federal government is the largest employer in the United States and the hardcore R base isn’t big enough for them to get away with pissing off people on the margins. Sure, the true believers will blame democrats. But if a relatively small percentage of Republican voters get pissed and don’t bother voting, they’re not only not going to win the White House, they could easily lose the house and their shot at controlling the senate. And what pisses people off more than not getting paid?

I’m assuming they’re probably near air ports and touristy areas. They did the same thing in Italy, of all places. But they still exist there for tourists who don’t know any better.

The hop part is a bit more interesting. The strong beers of the time weren’t enough to keep the beer from getting infected. However, hops are a natural preservative. The oils have antibiotic properties. They were initially used as a preservative for weak British ales and the taste was a side effect but not necessarily the desired effect. I don’t think Starbucks has a ton of locations in Australia but they do sell pumpkin spice lattes this time of year. So if you live near one, you could try it. Personally, I think they’re pretty gross but I also don’t love sweet coffee.

I don’t buy the he’s a “smart trump” argument. His presidential bid was an obvious mistake that could have never ended any other way. But he did it anyway out of ego and narcissism. He’s not a smart trump, he’s trump without the charisma or timing.

The developer of paint.net sells it on the Microsoft store to support the product. Not any different than buying an app through the App Store or Google play store.

It’s created by a Microsoft Engineer, not super surprising they leverage Microsoft tools to get paid.

Android is also Linux. I guess it’s a bigger secret.

I upgraded from 11 to 14 pro and was pretty underwhelmed. It was kinda worth it for the camera but besides that, it’s the exact same phone.

I would have 100% done this in my 20s when I was borderline homeless and dumpster diving to live. But now I’m older and a million dollars is less life changing than it would have been then. Sure more financial comfort would be nice but my basic needs are taken care of. Plus my body is in way worse shape now. I’m old and lame now and less likely to do ridiculous shit for the experience. I don’t think I would do it.

3 to 6 months if such a bitter sweet age. On the one hand, it’s when they start turning in to little people and their personality starts emerging. But it’s also where it starts to get really hard. I’m not sure if it gets easier or you get better at dealing with it, but it gets better.

We’re at 18 months and it’s a really fun and exciting age but I miss the little goofy baby. The last few months before they become mobile and tear your house to shreds are precious.

It’s way too broad a comparison. In my North Eastern US state, encountering smokers isn’t that common because it’s illegal inside and anywhere near a door. So to smoke, you have to pretty much hide. And it’s become uncommon enough, smoking makes you a pariah so people seem to be breaking the official rules less often as time goes on due to social pressure more than fear of enforcement. We were out at a bar the other day and a guy smoked on the patio and it very much stood out. You could feel the vitriol for this guy in the atmosphere and after a minute he walked in to the parking lot looking embarrassed. Not that long ago a waitress would have brought him an ash tray.

But go to Kentucky, there’s no rules about smoking anywhere. Last time I was there, we went to a grocery store with an ashtray between isles. Every building we went in to smelled like the 80s.

These are both the USA. And then in Europe, you do have countries like Bulgaria, Turkey, and Greece where more than 25% of the country smokes, which is higher than anywhere in the US. But then you have Sweden with only 6% and Norway with 7% which is a little bit better than anywhere in the US.

I’ve been thinking about doing this because I have a herniated lumbar disk and every seat hurts except the seat in my truck. Hopefully this it a temporary situation but it is insanely comfortable, maybe worth it.

I’ve used Linux since the 90s and I’ve never installed a flat pack or snap or whatever. They’re not required.

You need a book to tell you how to install Linux? I guess we were all a noob at one point.
