Yes there were ... we just didn't call them billionaires ... we called them Kings, Queens, Supreme Rulers, Emperors, God Kings

The world looks exactly the same now as it did 2,000 years ago politically because the idea of supreme and infinite wealth never went away. We've always had men who believed they could rule or own the entire world ... and we still do.

I always say and think about all this from the perspective of billionaires .... all they ever care about is money and the free flow of money everywhere. As long as money is moving and people believe in it, praise it and worship it, everything else can be tolerated and controlled.

The internet and free flowing communication allows for money to flow a lot .... without it money would quickly become segmented into tight regions and countries and everything becomes closed .... which makes it harder for money to flow, which makes it harder for a billionaire to make more money.

Same with World War or even nuclear war ... I don't think it will ever happen on purpose because once that first bomb goes off, billionaires will cease to be billionaires as the world financial system collapses. The billionaires won't care how many millions die, they'll be more upset that their imaginary digitally managed wealth will either decrease a lot or even completely. They know that in a post apocalyptic world, no one will care if you claim to be a billionaire if banks no longer exist. You might say that billionaires will have gold stashes around to fund their own personal army .... but that won't work either because their army will just kill them to take the wealth.

All of it is possible because of human greed .... all of it is under threat because of human greed .... and all of it is held in balance because of human greed.

Why bother? Just hire some guys pay them whatever money you can raise and get the hired hands to hunt down the bounty hunters. They put on masks call themselves ICE and Bob's your uncle. It's the wild west again ... just do whatever you want with a mask on and a gun. Everyone is doing it and it's the only way to get things done because the government isn't involved in anything anymore.

Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian brothers and sisters, landed, immigrant, nation-born, First Nation, Arch-Linux-users, Metis, religious, non-religious, whatever denomination, Lemmy-user, Fediverse-user, corpo-Social-Media-user, straight, bi, none-sexual, LGBTQ++++, black, brown, white and every shade in-between.

We have our differences, we have our troubles, we have issues, good, bad and whatever ... but at the end of the day we will always be national brothers and sisters who inhabit this land.

My parents were survivors of the Residential School system but they always celebrated Canada Day never knowing the politics or history ... they just enjoyed having a fun day in the middle of summer. I've grown to learn lots of good and bad about Canada but in all that history, I may have grown negative and dark but at the same time, as I grow older, I also realize that we have to keep hope alive and always reach out to others, especially to any potential allies. We can create a country where we can all co-exist in a cooperative way that can be equally beneficial for every individual in this country. I will always hope for that.

I was going to make fun of this thread by saying some dumb thing but then I noticed your comment ... this is your thread now ... my condolences to you and your family ... and you should clear coat that section of the wall to preserve it forever ... and if you ever renovate or change your house ... carefully carve out that section of wall, frame it and display it as a family heirloom.

Even if you have 30 years of life left, I don't think the average person (including me) could survive 30 days in a deserted island. Which means you would spend the rest of your life there.

Political violence is quintessentially American Conservatism

A lot of that historical violence has been directed at minorities, social groups, marginalized groups, Indigenous people, LGBTQ+, union workers, blacks, Hispanics, women

If you want to narrow it all down ... most of the American political violence, the majority of it over the past 200 years was driven by white Christian males who believe they are a ruling class and need to be on top overpowering everyone else for their own personal benefit .... usually with the lame excuse that it is God's will. And I honestly also don't believe it has anything to do with God or Christianity or even religion ... it's just a small entitled group of people who just want all the power, all the money and all the control ... you know the same jungle mentality of that one male monkey who wants all the bananas and all the females and be able to pound their chest and make everyone scared.

I'm Indigenous Canadian and this does not mean I want to jump over the political cliff and call for the end of all white Christian males ... I'm just pointing out the history ... and what I believe is that we can all coexist together without any one group dominating over another and everyone just living together equally - socially and economically.

Repetition .... and repetition in multiple formats

Repeat what you want to remember
Repeat inside your thoughts
Repeat it out loud (either to no one or to someone nearby)
Repeat it with action ... point, touch, move or just handle the thing or object related to what you want to remember
Repeat it by writing ... write it down and note it

Then do the same things again and again ... eventually over time, these things will get ingrained in your thoughts and actions.

Some processes take time to remember (like playing an instrument) but others take less time (like where are my damned keys!)

Figure out first how to destroy it .. then you can know how to save it

But I think they're going a little overboard in the first half of that process
