  • I'm not sure about the social dynamics with proof of stake, you might be right but, why aren't people willing to volounteer? Is there a limit to how many stakeholders there are? or a minimum (large) stake, meaning you must be rich?

Anyways, one thing I can say for sure: these dynamics already exist with proof-of-work: miners started using specialized hardware, raising the barrier to entry for the "small guys", so instead, people join large mining pools which are becoming more and more centralized.

So at least proof-of-stake is not worse in this respect.

  • Until the banks (or the government, or someone more powerful than you) decides you shall not use your money and those funds get blocked. Or maybe you don't want to tell your bank, or the government, what you do with your money. Yes, there's cash, but it's going away. And please don't tell me "you have nothing to hide, so nothing to worry", there's plenty of legitimate reasons for privacy.

If people stopped thinking about crypto as "EaZZy MoNey" and instead, just treated it for what it was meant for, as a currency, it could actually be useful. But please let's get rid of proof-of-work and energy waste.

  • Crypto was invented as a fully decentralized form of keeping and spending money, not as an "investment" (really, gambling) instrument as it is used now, so I fully agree crypto isn't evil, it's how it's currently used that's a problem. Proof-of-work though is evil, due to its energy requirements. Thankfully some coins (e.g. ethereum) are switching to proof-of-stake which doesn't waste energy for nothing.

  • There's no constantly on sensors, just a microphone... A microphone is not a sensor, right? right?

Yet one more thing I'll avoid like the plague (together with tiktok, temu, anything apple or tesla, the list keeps growing)

  • You still need a phone number to create an account. This just lets you hide it, and lets you share a chosen username with new contacts rather than your phone number, but you still have to provide the phone number to signal.

  • Well, you need a prescription for those, so people do take lots of tylenol (aka acetaminophen, aka paracetamol) or ibuprofen. The problem is, it's too easy to get prescription for opioids, and they get prescribed for relatively little things (but not for just e.g. a headache).

That said, I feel things are changing, people and authorities are openly admitting we have a opioid crisis, and there's more awareness of the risks, which makes me think (hope) that doctors will be a bit more concerned before prescribing them. That said, I never got prescribed one, and probably won't use them if I did.

  • I mean that's exactly my point: they were not able to negotiate a peace deal in good faith, which means they preferred war instead. Note I'm not familiar with that specific episode. I was thinking e.g. the assassination or Rabin by one of his own people

  • I didn't say civilians, mind you, I said "Israel", but let's talk about the civilians: they voted for this government over and over for decades (minus the brief pause last year), and similar ones before, so at least the majority of them bears some responsibility as well. I'm only sorry for that minority of Israeli that wanted peace and voted for someone else.

  • I mean, they both had their fair chances of accepting a peace deal, but for some reason that didn't work out. Anyways, there's ony one of the two countries currently occupying territories of the other, and that's where my bias come from, but yeah, they're both murderers.

  • What I see is, two terrorists doing terror attacks on each others. Some countries fund one terrorist, others fund the other terrorist. One just happen to have a lot more funding. If only they would make a peace deal ... ah yeah, they tried that, didn't work ...
