  • Short term: new shoes! I ordered them online, they should arrive any day now. Looking forward to having something nice to wear in the summer.

Mid term: forging our wedding rings! We have a workshop coming up in a couple weeks where we'll be forging our very own rings under supervision of a professional jeweler. Jewelry is a very lovely thing on it's own, even more so when I'll be creating them from scratch together with my partner - the love of my life.

Long term: our wedding next year! There's still so much preparation to be done and so much money to save up until then, as well as the honeymoon right after that. It's all very exciting!!

  • Yes however today there aren't tools available anymore that hitler had to make this happen. Our constitution is now far better protected and isn't as easily dismantled as the Weimar republic's constitution. Still sucks that so many people voted for afd though

  • Although I don't live with them, the topic comes up every time I am on the phone with my father. He keeps yapping and yapping about how great the motherland is, until I snap. It seems it's all he ever wants to talk about - Putin this, Ukraine that.

Thank you for your advice, I'll try setting up some boundaries next time he calls.

  • Thank you for your advice. Unfortunately though, I don't live with my parents anymore. They seem to consume information mostly through telegram, news articles and Russian television. I wouldn't know how to shield them from those influences, I don't have access to all their accounts or devices.

Ironically, my mom's husband is from Odessa, Ukraine, yet he still sides with Russia. They're small business owners and would likely profit from AFDs tax reforms. Their clients are also mostly "Russland-deutsche" and apparently most of them are also AFD voters. No wonder they were influenced towards this direction. Hard to tell if they have spoken to Ukrainian refugees, doesn't seem too unlikely given their clientele.

I think your tip with money is right on the nose. I would also describe my family as opportunistic, now that you mention it, it sounds like a fairly accurate description.

They don't seem fearful at all to me. My father for one thing believes Russia is the land of the free, where the government protects its citizens from evil NATO. I asked him what he thought about all those opposition journalists who disappeared or got jailed, or what about the laws forbidding to criticize the government on social media. His response was "nobody got jailed! It's all fake news! My colleague criticizes Putin all the time and nothing happened to him! It's those foreign agents and business crooks who got jailed, and rightfully so!"

It's very frustrating, I feel you bro.

Do you happen to have any resources on how to counter pro afd/ pro Putin arguments? I remember seeing a YouTube channel debunking Putins propaganda in Russian, but I don't know what they were called.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

How would you deal with right wing parents?

  • Well he started off as an underdog, and people like to cheer for someone who has the odds against them. At first he didn't have a lot of skill, the only thing he had going for him was his massive supply of chakra thanks to the kyuubi. But he wasn't good at controlling it and wasn't a good learner. Then he had his rivalry with Sasuke that made him train harder and push himself to new limits. Him defeating the odds was satisfying to watch.

His positive attitude to never give up and never go back on his word, to support his friends no matter what, to succeed against a much stronger enemy, those are admirable traits. Slowly he turns the odds in his favor, and he's always fighting side by side with his comrades. He becomes stronger and stronger until he is no longer considered "talentless" by his peers. Eventually he is the most op character in his universe. Although he did have the "chosen one" privileges, we watched him grow and train to achieve his goal, which made him likable.

  • Well how else are you gonna visualize those things for the audience. Same with green smell clouds coming off of something or someone who smells bad. It's difficult to make the audience understand and care about something invisible
