  • If hard or traditional exercise is a problem motivation-wise or physically, you might want to try something like Pokémon Go. PG uses scammy mobile game tactics, which is normally bad, but it does help with motivation. You can also try ingress (which I can’t speak to), orna (does not use scammy tactics, and is better from a privacy standpoint, but is easier to put down as a result), or something similar. Walking outside is pretty low impact and a good way to get vitamin D. I have a much easier time setting off with a couple of bottles of water, some coffee, and a battery pack for a several hour long walk or just getting out of bed and going for a walk around the block if I know I’ll get something out of it in the short term as well.

  • That’s exactly the attitude I’m talking about. Do you think the trolley problem has a right answer?

The other wrinkle is that voting for Biden shows no difference between full support and holding your nose to save democracy, so if I vote for the democrats every time, they’ll just put worse and worse candidates up. The republicans are already doing that, so every election from now on will be the pivotal one to “save democracy” (while the democrats ignore the wants of their party members in primaries).

I will do evil no matter how I vote.

I know which of these two candidates is less evil, but that doesn’t mean it’s the obvious best choice. Perhaps voting for a third party is, especially for my completely meaningless vote (CT). I don’t know yet, I need to think, and being constantly berated or called a trump supporter is really fucking annoying. It’s not going to make me vote trump (that one’s certain, at least), but it’s making it harder to neutrally evaluate the situation, because discussing it with people is fruitless.

  • My cat’s torn. I got her before meeting my husband and I’m her person, but he’s bigger, so she gets to be taller if she sits on him. She tends to sit on him, with at least one paw on me. He does toss and turn more than I do, so sometimes she’ll get annoyed and come back to me completely.

But if either of us is in an uncomfortable position that we shouldn’t try to hold, she’ll come over immediately and curl up.

  • I have a truly earnest question: do you think the trolley problem has an obviously correct answer?

I see so many people who are just flabbergasted (or unwilling to believe, as above) that people can see that trump is worse, but still not want to vote for Biden.

  • I mean, I just use a private window as a matter of course because I use the auto complete for common websites and I don’t want anything untoward showing up if I’m looking something up in front of people. I gotta assume that’s pretty common, no matter what people are into.

  • It’s 100% not my thing, but, y’know, neither is scat. I’m just assuming someone likes it because it’s everywhere. Another user suggested it’s to get people to pay for non-incest porn, which sounds possible, though the porn companies would have to be willing to collude about that. I’m not sure if that’s likelier than that people are just ashamed about it.

  • A lot of those countries have had tension with their neighbors because they’ve been taken over by a series of military coups which are aligned with each other and gradually spreading. I’m sure other stuff is also going on (I’m also shamefully uninformed), but that jumps out as a possibility. Cutting communications is useful for a coup and preventing one, depending on timing, but you’re right that a mistake is more likely

  • If it helps, I’m a (terrified) immigrant in Germany and it’s really confusing. I don’t know why there’s so much certainty in media reports about things that aren’t certain. It could be a language barrier, but I assume mild shade whenever Konjunktiv I comes up, so I’m probably interpreting that as unfairly noncommittal.

Examples: Scholz wanted to disallow immigrants from working, then make them work to be eligible for citizenship, whatever is happening with marijuana, I read about Wagenknechts new party more than a year before she actually formed it.

  • I’ve been thinking it’s pretty common for a while, just because of how common a version of it with plausible deniability for the downsides (step siblings, etc.) is in porn. I know people say it’s just to appeal to people who really like it and the rest can just mute, but that’s very unconvincing. I always have porn muted, because the sounds don’t do much for me and just about every person I talk to about this (not a lot, so grain of salt) is surprised that anyone would mute as a rule. Secondly, I don’t think you really need words to pick up on the incest vibe.
