  • What you’re describing (enslaved people’s children are automatically also enslaved) is chattel slavery, it’s a special kind of evil.

However, those other things you listed are also slavery (people forced to work against their will). No, they’re not the same, but they’re both forms of slavery. The definition is broader than you might expect.

  • That’s even stranger! Do you have any idea why? Is there maybe a pre-metric system measurement that’s closer?

Or maybe soy milk is just 6.4% less dense than water and it’s a kilogram

  • No, not at all, it’s the safest life available to them, in terms of likelihood for disease and life expectancy.

If you really want prison, it’s available to you and you do get food and medical care free.

Herbivores still get bored and try to escape, so they probably don’t love it.

I would love a source that they don’t though. It’s my understanding that that’s why zoos are hard to run.

  • Would you rather live a normal life and at some point be mauled to death, or live your entire life in a prison and at some point be killed more painlessly?

Yes, animals suffer and die in the wild. They also suffer and die in captivity, just in different measures, but I would argue they suffer more as farm animals.

  • Most words ending in -[vowel]c get a k when the ending is more than just s, without changing to a soft c.

We picnicked in a panicky mood while politicking traffickers rollicked nearby.

Is spelled correctly (for American English at least), which would be fine if it weren’t for words like gimmick, but if anyone gives you shit for not assuming that, they’re an idiot.

  • Sadly, if you don’t cause the animal undue pain (a clean shot almost certainly is not legally considered to cause undue pain, but noem didn’t do that…), you’re totally allowed to kill your pets at any time. I would definitely prefer that people who kill their pets (for reasons other than mercy/safety) are separated from the rest of society than people who shoplift, but alas.

  • I wanted to know recently how the ancient Greeks tracked years, but I couldn’t find shit. I got months in various parts of greece, regnal years in Rome, Egypt, and China, and AUC in Rome (from the founding of the city) and AM (anno mundi) for the Jewish calendar.

  • Ohio State University police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested about three dozen people Thursday night for staging a pro-Palestine encampment on campus – carrying out what is likely the highest number of protest-related arrests there since the Vietnam War.

Hopefully we don’t repeat anything else of Ohio universities during the Vietnam war, but I have basically zero faith in that.

  • Nonviolent people waiting for immigration to process them do not make knives out of paper. If they did, they would not receive asylum.

There’s no reason to conflate this with jail, except that we for some reason jail them.

  • Well we did. We only in the past few years realized how the Romans made cement, which was a far more advanced building material than we had again until the industrial revolution. The Bronze Age collapse is an older example, but we’ve had stories of great civilizations along with the technology they control dying and leaving mysteries for those who came next for as long as we have a cultural record.

The leap to space travel level technology is a big one, but I could see it being a really cool sci-fi novel. I think that’s basically the only requirement for a conspiracy theory: does it sound cool.
