I offer up the same advice and get the same result. People often thank me for the recommendation. Dells Latitude line, the so-called enterprise grade hardware, cause nothing but trouble for me.
Of all the major PC manufacturers, I have no difficulty believing Lenovo could be a leader in this area because their design and build quality are superior. I have very well used ThinkPad T430s that continues to function well under Linux. It's ancient hardware but it's rugged and well built so it's less likely to end up as e-waste.
It's also likely to be an energy vampire as well. The DL380G7 was a good server in it's hayday. From a reliability standpoint it still is. But the performance per amount of energy consumed is just not economical. That much said, you could save power draw by replacing the spinning disks with SSDs and make it better but the G7's processor will be anemic by today's measures.
I'm sorry but that made no sense to me whatsoever. Are you referring to the creation of an echo chamber? If so you could not be more incorrect. As far as I am concerned, there is no valid argument for painting racism, hatred, and bigotry in positive brush strokes. None whatsoever.
Prior to transferring state agencies, I worked for my state's child welfare department. Sadly, your story is not an uncommon one where the foster parents do their very best, but the foster child ends up creating a toxic environment. You did the best you could, OP. Your heart was in the right place. We try but we cannot always save the world.
This is unfortunately true. That much said, the tide may be slowly turning in our favor as more and more people discover non-corporate, free and open source social media. Some of my circle of tech friends have deleted all corporate social media and have stood up instances of Mastodon or Akkoma, Friendica, Pixelfed, and Lemmy or Kbin for family.
Eventually, people will be asking themselves why they bother using gmail.com, outlook.com, and yahho.com addresses when they can just do it themselves for friends and family. The internet was never meant to be controlled by a select few corporations. It was always intended to be decentralized to avoid a single point of failure so as to continue to mostly work in the case of war, catastrophe, or both.
It is an egalitarian society where we all work for one another's benefit. I can really dream can't I. I like the idea of anarcho-communism in the style that was very much common in Native American societies prior to the racist/bigoted European settlers. This kind of society everyone was important and everyone played a key role in the success of the society. A leader acted more as a facilitator and less as an authority figure.
I honestly never minded cleaning litter boxes. I still volunteer two Saturdays a month at mine. There was this one kitten we named Maddie which is sort of after me because my name in real life is Matt. She was my little shadow. She had the most pitifully sad meow that tugs at the heart strings. Anyhow, when I would come she would meow really loudly to sleep in my hoodie hand warming pocket while I cleaned litter boxes and food bowls. She eventually got adopted by a sweet little girl whom I know will cherish her.
I'll say that I really like this idea. The challenge with self-hosting email will always be in the message deliverability to others because the big bois don't play well with smaller mail servers and often route legitimate messages to spam. This is even despite implementing SPF, DKIM, and DMARC properly.
Agreed! Very good. If I could do one thing right now, just one thing, I would start a cat rescue non-profit. The trouble is at my present mental and physical health, such an adventure is impossible because I depend on the benefits and economic stability that my employment in state government provides for me. But I can still dream.
Maybe try booting with Linux Mint and see how far you get with that. Just download the ISO and you can run it in a live environment to see what works and does not. I am sure you can find a cheap USB adapter on Amazon that will do the trick though.
Comcast is the real bottom feeder of the internet service provider industry so it stands to reason that they hope they can fool enough people to "buy" into their crap. As someone that works professionally in IT for a living, I can only laugh at the crap the sales rep tries to sell me on. When I point out the fallacies of their knowledge, I think it goes over like a lead balloon and they just quit while they're not ahead.
Caveat Emptor: I have not read the article. I am immediately suspicious of most economists because, at least in the US, they have a decidedly conservative bias. Generally US-based economists side with the concerns of the wealthy and promote policies friendly to them which are often at the expense of the poor and working classes.
That's really a cool offering. Though I imagine that CityFibre will probably make use of CGNAT which can be limiting for certain activities like self-hosting and gaming. Do you know what they plan to do on this front? The article makes no mention of that.
This is not easily answered because we are not fully familiar with all of the nuances of your current situation. The best advice I can give you is to make a list of the positives and negatives. This can help get the thoughts swirling around in your head out on paper. Sometimes based on being able to see the positives and negatives written down, the answer can become quite clear. Give it a shot and see what you come up with.
That's truly disappointing! đ
