  • There is no use case for TempleOS. It's just a curiosity, albeit an interesting one.

  • It looks nicer and a nice home that looks cared for is worth it on its own. I find it much easier to relax when things around me are tidy. Not making your bed is no different than leaving everything lying around after you're done using it. If you want to live like that, you do you, no judgement, but I don't.

  • Oh, I totally read that as you talking from experience :)

Or do you mod somewhere else?

  • Since you're on the same instance as me, I assume you are a mod/admin there. Let me use this opportunity to say thank you to you and all the other mods on feddit.org for helping to keep that place one of the most pleasant online spaces I've come across in my years on the internet. As far as I can tell from the outside you and the others are doing a great job.

  • Can someone explain where the assumption comes from that the sticks are definitely going to drift, just because they use potentiometers? I get that people got burned by the Switch 1 Joycons, but doesn't pretty much every other gamepad ever (except perhaps a few specialty ones) also use that technology for the sticks?

I've personally never had any sticks develop drift, on any controller I've owned. If Xbox, Playstation, PC and older Nintendo controllers all didn't have the problems the Switch 1 Joycons did, then why the assumption the Switch 2 will be like the Switch 1 and not like all the other consoles that use potentiometer sticks with no issues?

  • In my experience the city information is not particularly reliable. If you geolocate my IP the city is always wrong.

  • When I was 13 I wrapped a fire cracker in tape apart from the end with the fuse (I thought it would be louder that way). It exploded in my hand as I lit it.

My hand was fine because of the tape but the full force of the blast came out the untaped end and shot fragments of paper and black powder right into my face and eyes.

Ended up having to get rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. They basically removed several layers of skin from my face and scraped the debris from my eyeballs. After surgery I couldn't see further than like 10cm from my face and the doctors told me either it would be permanent or I'd be able to see again in a week or so. Luckily it was the latter.

I got extremely lucky and made a full recovery.

  • You clearly find it easy to stop doing things that are bad for you (drinking, drugs, eating meat), but you struggle to start doing things that are good for you (exercise, cooking, eating enough/well).

She was right. I still don't do the bad stuff and started doing the good stuff and now my life is so much better. Ironically it was quitting the last bad thing (weed) which allowed me to start taking care of myself. It's not enough to not hurt yourself, you have to be good to yourself too.

  • So platforms (rightfully) remove this song, but are happy to let him have an account and make money off his other songs? If they actually cared, he would have been banned a long time ago…

  • That's not been my experience at all (also in Germany). Signal is super popular, especially with younger people (under 40). I don't have a Whatsapp account and it's super rare for it to be an issue.

  • tbf, if you're not hostile to the US at this point, I'd seriously question your sanity. You don't need to be a tankie for that.

  • Trust me. Being healthy feels great. In my early twenties I used to do all the drugs, smoked and drank every day. I didn't have any obvious health issues, but I can tell you now, that being fit and healthy feels so much better. I used to feel pretty miserable, but now I feel like I can do anything. Self care is important for self love. You can still be happy, even with all the shit going on, but you need to look after yourself.

  • You do realise there are other types of holiday than flying around the globe to lie by the pool in a country with cheap labour, right? I think I've taken like one return flight in the last 10 years (excluding work trips). My last holidays I've travelled to by train to other countries in Europe. My next holiday I'm travelling one way by train and one way by bike.

  • If that's how you feel, fair enough, but I honestly don't see much value in letting AI generate suicide emojis.

  • It has constraints.

  • It's an AI text to emoji feature. You describe what you want and it generates a custom emoji from the prompt. Not super necessary of course, but it's actually one of the more fun "Apple Intelligence" features.

  • I sometimes get dreams where I drink alcohol. I haven't had a drink in over 5 years. I don't think it has anything to do with wanting to drink, and more a fear of somehow accidentally drinking and fucking up my streak (even though I'm like 99% sure that if that were to happen, I'd not start drinking again).

  • DB uses this novel trick to avoid delays: they simply don't count trains that don't run at all as delayed. And then they also sometimes cancel trains for being delayed. They simply turn the train around before reaching it's final stop so at least it's somewhat on time running the other way.
