  • Hamas? yeah

can't get lower than shooting rockets from next to hospitals, schools, etc, forbidding people to leave because you know you'd be exposed without them as shields and still pinning every casualty for your behaviour on the country that you just slaughtered hundreds of people of without any reason other than to provoke

  • Quatar is a key partner because they have a position that allows for negotiations and are not as fundamentally extremist as many other countries in the region

Hamas leaders are living in quatar though without Quatar having any problem with that - they are basically Switzerland in the middle east.

And Al-Jazeera reported stuff directly from official sources from Palestine which happened to be exaggerated Hamas propaganda all the time - I'd say it's a bit less one-sided than RT since they usually include other views as well but it's still extremely biased reporting for issues regarding the conflict

  • So what's the alternative? Not pressure Hamas with rockets to free the hostages is probably not an option because of how diabolically they planned their bases of operations next to hospitals, schools or inside civilian buildings.

So Israel should try to go in with the army on foot and evacuate building by building by force? Sure that will be no problem especially given that Hamas will 100% pose as civilians during those raids and attack Israel from behind with all the tunnels underneath Gaza - so every soldier there would be extremely paranoid - no way that can go wrong.

Not doing anything and letting Hamas take hostages and kill thousands is not an option either - so calling for evacuation and then targeting legitimate targets by international law is the correct course of action even though I agree that it's an extremely shitty situation for the civilians there.

At least the civilians killed by Israel are killed by accident and not fully intentional like Hamas is doing.

Everyone can agree that the civilians in Gaza are the poorest party in this but imho people fail to grasp the situation from different viewpoints and see it for how complex it is.

  • Then Egypt needs to eliminate the threat of Hamas in their country.

Oh - that's not possible without collateral damage since the absolute love using civilians as human shields? Better not take them in and let Israel take the blame...

  • On the Internet you're not arguing to convince that person you're arguing with.
You should argue to challenge the statements that person made for other people that will read the thread so those opinions are not out there without any counterarguments

  • I think it's pretty sad that this is influencing people's decision who to vote for - I understand it a bit if you vote the politicians directly since those change every couple of years but voting a party that's been part of the political system forever because they advertised more than the other parties? That seems very sad

  • It is on the military to avoid civilian casualties.

And what would be your solution to that? accept people to flee to Israel and put them in camps temporarily until they can go back? surely that won't provoke negative reactions...
Letting everyone roam freely also isn't workint since Hamas has shown that they'd take any chance they get to harm Israeli civilians so they're for sure not taking that chance.

it's always easy to criticize something and MUCH harder to come up with a better alternative - and I've yet to read someone state one other than "don't attack Gaza" which would basically be like rolling over and letting the terrorists win which surely can't be in people's interest...

  • They told them to evacuate and Hamas told them to stay put which many did.

    So what's your suggestion?

Going in there with the army on the ground? That will probably result in even more casualties.

Hamas is just evil with how they planned their bases around hospitals, churches or civilian buildings because they know that it's impossible to target them without having civilian casualties. That's the whole point.

So Israel should just ignore that Hamas specifically targeted schools and civilians for their attack and not do anything? Seriously what's your suggestion besides staying in your childish black and white thinking of optimal solutions.

Civilian casualties are absolutely horrible but imho those are 100% Hamas fault for using them as meat shields and creating the necessity for a response by what they did to those victims of their attack.

I know Palestine people don't really have a choice since there were no elections in a long time so they are the biggest victims of this but imho putting the blame on Israel is just making it far too easy.

  • within 24h hours after that explosion at the hospital in Berlin there were reported cases of people spraying stars of david on jew's houses and an incident with a molotov being thrown at a synagogue.

The line between Anti-Zionism and Anti-Semitism is VERY thin for a lot of people...

  • And too many people where just too happy to jump to conclusions if that conclusion is allowing them to shit on Israel further.

I don't think I've ever seen misinformation being gobbled up so willingly by so many before - the internet was just ready to condemn Israel for whatever they could get their hands on.

And as if one needed proof that Anti-Zionism is just a disguise for Anti-Semitism directly after that claim of Israel being responsible in Berlin people already started spraying Stards of David on houses that jews where living and threw a molotov at a synagogue.

  • Have you been on the internet in the past week? Sure politicians and newspapers are generally more towards that kind of statement but Lemmy and Twitter are basically flooded with solidarity with Palestine and yesterday I saw multiple threads about this incident with sources that claimed it was Israel which had people being all "of course they would do that" and if the article was about Israel denying involvement the most comments were not believing that.

Some people started spraying stars of David on houses where Jews live in Berlin yesterday and another person threw a Molotov at a synagogue.

There is a shitton of anti-zionist rhetoric out there which fluently merges with anti-semitism
